Dave Hasz: Where is Ron Luce’s Former Right-Hand Man Now?

While Ron Luce was the public face of Teen Mania Ministries, it was David “Dave” Hasz who led and represented the Honor College program. Known for his strict discipline and highly regimented approach, Hasz played a central role in shaping the day-to-day environment of the program. In Prime Video’s ‘Shiny Happy People: A Teenage Holy War,’ several former participants shared their experiences and interactions with Dave. It gave insight into his leadership style and the lasting impact it had on their time within the organization.

Dave Hasz Was Known as a Strict Figure in Teen Mania Ministries

The first encounter many former members of Teen Mania Ministries had with Dave Hasz was at the Honor Academy, where he served as director. Unlike Ron Luce, who was seen as a charismatic public figure, Dave was remembered for his commitment to discipline and a rigid adherence to rules. Several alumni alleged that he appeared far more invested in creating a structured, almost militaristic environment. He was often the face of the rigorous physical training, early morning drills, and boot camp-style regimens that became central to the program.

Allegations made by former interns in the series included claims of emotional manipulation, public shaming as a disciplinary tactic, and a culture of fear that discouraged questioning authority. Many claimed the strict lifestyle extended beyond structure, veered into control, and allegedly left long-lasting psychological effects. For some, Dave’s leadership came to symbolize the more extreme elements of their time at Teen Mania. We’d like to reiterate that these are personal recollections and perspectives, and do not represent verified findings.

David Hasz is Working in the Education Sector Even Today

After dedicating over two decades to Teen Mania Ministries, David Hasz concluded his tenure in September 2012 as the Executive Vice President. In this role, he had comprehensive oversight of key organizational pillars, including Acquire the Fire, Global Expeditions, the Honor Academy, and Extreme Camps. He also supervised operational departments such as Facilities and Information Technology and played a pivotal role in managing logistics, infrastructure, and strategic direction for the ministry’s multifaceted programs. Following his departure from Teen Mania, he briefly joined Simplify as the Vice President of Business Trust in late 2012, where he focused on building organizational confidence through ethical leadership and operational transparency. His tenure at Simplify ended in February 2013, after which he transitioned into a new chapter of leadership and education.

That same year, Dave began working with Bethany Global University, a missionary training institution in Minnesota. Initially brought on as the Executive Vice President, he helped shape the academic and spiritual direction of the university. His commitment and leadership saw him rise through the ranks, and in September 2022, he assumed the dual roles of President/CEO of Bethany Global University and President of Bethany International. Under his guidance, the institution has continued to evolve and now focuses on equipping students for global missions through a blend of academic rigor and spiritual formation.

Dave’s background in education dates back to his earlier years as a high school teacher at Faith Christian Academy. He earned his Bachelor’s degree in Education from Oral Roberts University in 1991, laying the foundation for his long-standing involvement in youth development and leadership training. Committed to continuous learning and professional growth, he pursued a Master’s in Intercultural Leadership at Bethany Global University from 2013 to 2016. In 2021, he achieved a significant academic milestone by earning a Doctorate in Strategic Leadership with concentrations in Organizational Leadership and Global Missions Leadership from Faith International University. Today, David Hasz remains an influential figure in evangelical education and missionary leadership.

David Hasz is Happy in His Role as a Grandfather

Outside of his professional accomplishments, Dave Hasz has navigated profound personal experiences. In 2016, he faced one of the most difficult chapters of his life when his beloved wife, Beth, passed away. The couple had built a family together, raising four children who are now grown and have families of their own. Dave is a proud grandfather and cherishes his role in the lives of his children and grandchildren. Despite the personal loss, he continues to lead a life rooted in faith, remaining steadfast in his spiritual convictions. He lives in Minneapolis, Minnesota, where he finds peace and renewal through outdoor activities. An avid cyclist and swimmer, he lives an active lifestyle that reflects both discipline and balance.
