Debbie Rediess Murder: Where is Randall Creek Now?

A mother of two named Debbie Rediess met with her untimely demise in early October 2008, right outside her house in Kentucky. The tragic incident shook the community to its core, while her loved ones were taken over by grief and pain. The detectives were then led on a cross-state manhunt by the perpetrator, who was finally apprehended within a couple of days of the murder. The entire case and all its intricate details are explored in the episode titled ‘I Love You to Death’ of Investigation Discovery’s ‘Signs of a Psychopath.’

Debbie Rediess’ Boyfriend Called the Police After Her Demise

Debbie Ann McKinney Rediess entered the lives of David and Jo Ann McKinney as a ray of sunshine on December 27, 1961. Raised in a nurturing household in Warren County, Kentucky, she was loved deeply by her parents and extended family members. The 1979 Warren East High School graduate grew into a free-spirited and bright woman who embraced life with kindness and resilience. Her compassionate nature and radiant personality made it effortless for her to form lasting friendships and leave an impact on everyone she met. Through hard work and determination, Debbie had built a beautiful life for herself and her children. She was a doting mother to her two sons, Dustin Rediess and John “JB” Rediess III.

While she hadn’t always been lucky in love, she kept her heart open and was hopeful of finding her one true love. One night at a nightclub, her eyes met with Randall Creek, an ex-police officer who was officially a bachelor since 1995 (post his divorce). The two dated for five years before going their separate ways. By the time 2008 rolled around, the 46-year-old had become a grandmother and secured employment at Country Oven Bakery. She enjoyed gardening and cooking, but more importantly, loved making beautiful memories with her family and friends. Furthermore, the animal lover cherished her cuddle sessions with her adorable furry baby, Sparky. A devout Christian, Debbie always looked forward to her visit to Hillvue Heights Baptist Church.

Sometime in mid-2008, Debbie got into a relationship with Gregory Lynn Wilson. In just three months, the two had seemingly formed a strong connection rooted in mutual respect, understanding, trust, and true companionship. Interestingly, Debbie and Gregory shared the same birthday – December 27 – a coincidence which made their bond more meaningful. Unfortunately, Debbie’s fulfilling life was taken away from her on October 5, 2008. On the fateful morning, the authorities received a call regarding a shooting from a panic-stricken Gregory. When they reached her residence near Smiths Grove, Kentucky, the police declared the mother of two dead due to multiple gunshot wounds. Without wasting any time, a homicide investigation was launched.

Debbie Rediess’ Past Came Back to Haunt Her

As the detectives dug deeper into Debbie Rediess’ life, they learned that after she had broken up with Randall Creek, they maintained contact as well as their friendship. The former couple reportedly met frequently each week and caught up with each other. Randall allegedly tried to reconcile with her romantically and sent her flowers and cards, something out of character for him. It turned out that Debbie had not revealed the fact that she was dating Gregory Lynn Wilson at the time. So, on September 26, 2008, the former police officer drove down to Anchorage, Alaska, and visited her house, where they allegedly got intimate that day. When he couldn’t get in touch with her in the following days, he suspected that she was seeing someone else.

Thus, on the morning of October 5, 2008, he paid another visit to her house in Smiths Grove, Kentucky, and noticed someone’s car in her driveway. When he knocked on her door, they got involved in a conversation, during which he reportedly shot her in the back of the head with his .40-caliber handgun. Noticing that she was still alive, he fired a few more rounds into her chest. When Gregory stepped outside, Randall instructed him to get away while pointing his gun at him. Fleeing the scene, the former cop drove to Allen County, where his ex-wife lived. After disposing of his weapon and uniform in his son’s car, he then stayed on the road for several hours while being hunted down by the police. Meanwhile, he also called up numerous friends and admitted to killing Debbie.

The fugitive booked a room at a Days Inn motel in Evansdale, Iowa, hundreds of miles away from the crime scene. After midnight on October 7, 2008, the police apprehended him outside the motel room. During his arrest, he claimed that he had no ties to Iowa and was just driving through there. He reportedly confessed to his crimes in an e-mail he sent to the Daily News of Bowling Green. Taunting the police force, he stated in the e-mail, “I am not running to get away, but I am going to make the KSP earn their money on this one. I have never been armed after the encounter, and there will be no chase or struggle, I assure you.” During his police interview, Randall provided a chilling confession and stated, “I murdered my girlfriend.”

Randall Creek is Currently Incarcerated at a Kentucky Prison Facility

Around early August 2010, Randall Allen Creek’s murder trial commenced. After two weeks of back-and-forth between the prosecution and defense, the jurors deliberated for about five hours before reaching a final verdict. On August 12, the killer was found guilty of Debbie Rediess’ murder and first-degree wanton endangerment. However, he was found not guilty of tampering with physical evidence. Following the conviction, the jury took more than an hour and recommended that the convict receive the maximum possible sentence, that is, life in prison.

Debbie’s father, David McKinney, stated, “All we can do is go forward, salvage what life we have left, and try to move on. I’ve got to try to show the love that Debbie can’t to her kids.” A few days later, on August 24, the sentencing hearing took place. During the hearing, Debbie’s family members took the stand and gave victim impact statements. Her father, David, addressed the killer, stating, “You’re a disgrace to the uniform you wore when you assassinated Debbie. I hope you have the same fate your dad had in his cell.”

Debbie’s boyfriend at the time, Gregory Lynn Wilson, also stated, “One of the hardest things I’ve ever had to do is forgive you. When we forgive others of wrongs they have committed against us, we do not excuse what they have done; we simply acknowledge that we have been hurt unjustly and turn the matter over to God.” Her mother also claimed that he had taken the rock of their family. Ultimately, he was sentenced to life in prison in addition to five years, which were to be served concurrently. As of today, the 58-year-old killer is serving his sentence at Kentucky State Penitentiary in Eddyville, Kentucky, with his parole eligibility scheduled for September 2028.
