Delayno Hudson Was Taken to the Hospital After Sustaining a Gunshot Wound
Delayno Raymont Hudson was born in 1995 to Devonia Hudson and Delayno Raymont Hudson Sr., who raised their only son with immense love and care. He shared a close bond with his sisters and was especially cherished by his eldest sister, Ericka Crenshaw, who doted on him. When their father passed away in 2001, it was a tough time for the family, but they banded together and helped each other through the tough times. Known for his quiet nature, Delayno had clear plans and hopes for his future, all of which were sadly cut short. On March 1, 2019, around 5 pm, police responded to a reported car crash in the 1600 block of Doc Strongs Road in Lansing, Michigan, near the Mill Pond Village mobile home park. There, they discovered Delayno had suffered gunshot wounds and rushed him to the hospital. He succumbed to his injuries on March 3, leaving behind unanswered questions.
Delayno Hudson’s Killer Spent the Day With Him Before the Shooting
In addition to Delayno Hudson, police located two other people near the crash scene. A 22-year-old man from Lansing and a 66-year-old man from Haslett had also suffered gunshot wounds. As investigators began questioning the survivors, they learned that a fourth person had been present at the scene. He was a friend of the three men, and they had spent the entire day together prior to the shooting. The individual was identified as Kyvon Deandre, a resident of Lansing, Michigan, but he was not found at the scene. Kyvon remained at large until March 21, 2019, when he was apprehended by the US Marshals Regional Gulf Coast Fugitive Task Force in Gulfport, Mississippi.
He was taken into custody and charged with murder, two counts of attempted murder, armed robbery, and four weapons-related offenses. There was no forensic evidence directly linking him to the crime, but investigators concluded that the four friends had been involved in something earlier that day, which ultimately led to the shooting and the resulting car crash. It was also reported that Kyvon had been under the influence of drugs and alcohol at the time. While the specific details surrounding his motive were never publicly disclosed, police determined that the incident was not a random act. Instead, they classified it as targeted gun violence based on the circumstances and their findings.
Kyvon Wells is Serving a Long Sentence in the Michigan DOC Today
Kyvon Wells’ trial was scheduled to begin in September 2021, but just days before proceedings were set to start, he pleaded no contest to second-degree murder. His defense team had earlier claimed he had an alibi and could prove he was at his cousin’s house at the time of the crime, though that evidence and argument were never formally presented in court. In November 2021, Kyvon was sentenced, during which he said, “I’m sorry for y’alls’ loss. I really don’t have too much to say.” Prosecutors alleged that following the triple shooting, he spent time drinking and partying in a hotel room and showed little remorse.
The defense countered that Kyvon did not intend to harm anyone that day, emphasizing that the events leading up to the incident were critical to understanding what occurred. He received a sentence ranging from 29 years to just over 64 years in prison, with credit for approximately two and a half years already served. Now 27, Kyvon is incarcerated at the Ionia Correctional Facility in Ionia, Michigan. He will be eligible for parole in 2048, with a maximum release date set for 2083.
