Delirium Season 2: What to Expect if Renewed?

The first season of ‘Delirium‘ ends with the characters enduring several trials and tribulations to eventually find peace. With their new stability comes a stronger sense of interpersonal relationships, but that also brings its new share of challenges. Agustina finds her true love in Aguilar and promises a fresh start, but her bond with her family still hangs in a delicate balance. Furthermore, Midas seems to have accepted his punishment for a life full of mistakes, but that might not be enough. As such, the story ends on a cautiously optimistic note, acknowledging how easy it is for things to fall apart right after a healing period. As of writing, Netflix has not made any announcement regarding the show’s future prospects. Still, even if it’s greenlit swiftly, the second season can be expected to arrive between 2026 and 2027. SPOILERS AHEAD.

Delirium Season 2 Could Focus on Agustina’s Unresolved Mental Disorders

While the first season ends with Agustina and Aguilar reconciling their differences and starting their married life anew, it doesn’t completely tackle the primary cause of the fissure in their relationship: the former’s delirium. It is evident that she is suffering from severe mental disorders, and as such, her return to normalcy might just be temporary. While Aguilar does attempt to give his wife some form of treatment, it is largely unproductive, as she is kept on bed rest for the entirety of her stay in the psychiatric facility. Agustina’s symptoms are far more complex in nature, involving a composite of audio-visual hallucinations and prolonged bouts of paranoia, and likely require careful medical supervision. To that end, her mind can once again take center stage in the next chapter of the story.

Agustina’s possible diagnosis and treatment are likely to bring another wave of challenges for Aguilar, who previously went through a lot to be by her side. As it is implied that he has taken up his job as a professor again, an imbalance between his personal and professional life is potentially in the cards. Another key point in their relationship is the loss of their first child. Aguilar’s initial requests for another attempt are denied by Agustina, who explains her fear of history repeating itself. However, with her new perspective on life, this plotline definitely has a strong likelihood of returning. As the protagonist suffers from a complicated relationship with her own parents, for her to become a new mother can bring some riveting psychological nuances to light.

Another burning question presented at the end of the season is the fate of Midas, Agustina’s former lover. His arc strays significantly from the protagonist’s in that he gets embroiled with the Mafia and quickly becomes one of their key assets. However, his luck soon runs out when the Colombian police strike back, taking down the Mafia’s facilities and most of their key leaders. While Midas survives, he becomes a public enemy and is forced to hide at his mother’s place in the poorer neighborhoods. In his last appearance, we see that he seems to have settled into his new life of secrecy, but it is likely that he now has enemies from both sides of the table: the Police and the Mafia. It can be an interesting direction to see him wade through turbulent times and secure his own survival.

Delirium Season 2 Could Shed More Light on Agustina’s Family

The first season of ‘Delirium’ leaves most of its character dynamics at a point of high intensity, most notably Agustina’s relation with her mother, Eugenia, and brother, Joaquin. While the former takes on more of a thematic role in her daughter’s development, the latter has much more pressing issues at hand, as with the Mafia gone, his company’s existence is dwindling. This is further complicated by Bichi’s return to the story, who is now claiming his share of the inheritance. Thus, these family affairs are likely to take center stage if the story is to continue. There is also the potential for these conflicts to confront Eugenia’s pretenses and compel her to mend her relationship with her daughter and sister.

As the star of the narrative, Agustina and Aguilar’s love story is bound to undergo a transformation if the story chooses to continue. However, whether that transformation ends up being positive or negative wholly depends on how the two learn from their past mistakes and move forward. For Aguilar, progress is a slippery slope, as he might just repeat his mistakes from the prior season and not give his wife the space and flexibility she needs. For Agustina, a possible interpersonal arc can be her coming clean about the details of her past, which she desperately tried to hide at one point. It is also evident that the protagonist is yet to find complete closure with Midas, given that their last conversation didn’t go smoothly. There is a possibility that the two will meet, but the outcome of their interaction depends on how much they put their newfound wisdom to use.

Delirium Season 2 is Likely to Bring Back Most of Its Cast Members

As ‘Delirium’ is a tightly knit family drama, the participation of almost the entire cast is crucial for the story to work. This means the return of Agustina, who has to navigate a complex web of dynamics with her family members, particularly her husband, Aguilar, her mother Eugeinia, and her brother, Joaquin. The protagonist’s brother, Bichi, who has largely been a family outcast, is likely to shine as well, given his conflict with his brother. An equally relevant character is Midas, who grounds the story in reality and brings an outsider’s perspective to the various conflicts. Lastly, Agustina’s aunt Sofia has the important role of tying the cast together. As such, Estefania Piñeres, Juan Pablo Raba, Paola Turbay, and Jose Julian Gaviria, as well as Jacobo Diez, Juan Pablo Urrego, and Cristina Campuzano, are all likely to reprise their respective roles.

In a season-defining moment, Agustina’s father, Carlos Vicente, passes away, leaving behind a complicated history. While his dynamic with his daughter remains a difficult one, it is unlikely to take center stage again. As such, one can expect actor Salvador Del Solar not to return in the potential second season. The same can be said about César Mora, who has a memorable role as Evaristo, the husband of one of the people being treated at the psychiatric facility where Agustina is temporarily admitted. He becomes a major influence on Aguilar, teaching him how to cope with the hardships of an ailing partner. However, given that the arc has already ended, and Mora’s character has already served its purpose, the focus is expected to shift to the main cast.
