Hulu’s ‘Secret Lives of Mormon Wives’ has seen its fair share of drama among its castmates. When the feud between Demi Engemann and the rest of the cast members blew up in season 4, it seemed like things were only going to get worse between them. However, in season 5, Demi was nowhere to be seen and was not even named in the roll credits. She has since spoken about what caused her departure and whether there are any plans for her to come back. She remains away from being featured on the season and has said that she had her own reasons to do so.
Demi Engemann’s Role in the Previous Season Was Already Reduced
Demi Engemann was a main cast member introduced in the debut season of the series. At first, she came across as one of the other girls who was open and frank about her life experiences. However, by the second season, problems had started bubbling up. Jessi Ngatikaura confronted Demi about the allegation that Demi had asked producers to remove Jessi from the show if it meant she would be paid more. This led to heated arguments between the friends, and the rest of the cast lined up on Jessi’s side. The real reason why things blew over started with Marciano Brunette claiming that he had gotten close to Demi.
Marciano then claimed that he had an affair with Jessi, which caused some trouble in her marriage as well. In the midst of these speculations, Demi accused Marciano of sexual misconduct, and he sued her for defamation in return. Soon, a lot of the other castmates went against Demi and claimed that her allegations were false. By season 4, Demi was no longer a main cast member of the season and was instead introduced in a “friend of” role. She was also not mentioned as an Executive Producer like the rest of the main cast were. She did not appear in any confessionals during the season and only interacted with the group in small moments.
Demi Engemann Has Attributed Mental Health for Her Reduced Role
In December 2025, Demi Engemann first mentioned that she was weighing up her options. She said that the door for her to come back was “wide open,” but she was taking her time to decide what was best for her. After the release of season 4, Demi said that she had no regrets about her role in the season. She added that she liked the flexibility of coming and going as she pleased. She said that it was largely due to her mental health that she had taken a step back from being filmed. By then, she had also made it clear that she had stepped away from the MomTok group itself and was not interested in getting dragged back into the drama of it all. So, she did not leave the show in one go, but slowly reduced her time on screen, and by season 5, she was no longer a cast member.
