Deviled Egg Co Shark Tank Update: Flavorful Additions to Boiled Eggs

Deviled Egg Co. is a food brand that has taken a simple food item like boiled eggs to a whole other level by adding different kinds of flavors and a touch of sophistication to them. Raechel Van Buskirk is the brain behind the invention of the popular gourmet deviled eggs. In the 20th episode of ABC’s ‘Shark Tank’ season 16, the founder and CEO of the company pitched Deviled Egg Co. and her future plans in front of the Sharks, who also got the opportunity to taste the flavors of the eggs offered by the brand, and hoped to get a deal from at least one of the them.

Deviled Egg Co: Who Are They and What Do They Do?

Before Deviled Egg Co. came into the picture, Raechel Van Buskirk was busy gaining experience in the food and beverage industry. Born and raised in Omaha, Nebraska, she started working in her early teenage years as a busser, hostess, and bartender to support her family. In 2014, she pursued Culinary Arts and Related Services from Metropolitan Community College, where she also earned her Associate’s degree in General Studies. Between 2014 and 2016, she also served as the Manager of Observatory Lounge on the side. For the following year, Raechel transferred to VIP Lounge, where she took on the role of a Manager too. While working at the Omaha bar, she was asked to create a unique snack that the customers would like. This led her to make a taco bar and prepare her first batch of taco-flavored deviled eggs.

Talking about the first reactions of her customers to her deviled eggs, Raechel said, “…I made up 200 deviled eggs and these guys, the regulars at the bar where I worked, were so disappointed when they first saw them. It was pretty uncomfortable. One guy sat down, looks at me, and I can see he’s mad. But I encouraged him to take a bite and he absolutely lit up. He then said to me, ‘These are pretty good!’ And he took out his cell phone I didn’t know he had, because I never saw him on a phone, called his buddies and told them to come try these deviled eggs. And this was the moment where my obsession began.” After winning hearts with her deviled eggs, she began catering the same on the side.

Given the high demand for the eggs, Raechel used to sell them before the bar opened. When she continued to get people’s recognition, she got inspired to establish a bigger business involving deviled eggs. In March 2018, she bagged the opportunity to work at WestEnd Lounge, serving as the General Manager for over two years. In 2020, she decided to put all her energy and focus on her concept of deviled eggs. She said, “When COVID hit, I bought a tiny, old metal food truck, and wrapped it in a super-cute egg theme, and opened for brunch and outdoor events in the spring/summer of 2021.” In early November of the following year, she signed the lease for a space in southwest Omaha that already had seating for 45 people and opened the doors to Deviled Eggs Co.

Raechel was forced to battle a significant bump on the road that entered her life in the form of breast cancer in December 2022. Her resilience allowed her to survive the life-threatening disease. Raechel Van Buskirk is the proud Founder and CEO of Deviled Egg Co., which is the only gourmet deviled egg company in the country. Not only do they use fresh ingredients for each dish, but all the eggs are hand-peeled. The Deviled Egg Co. might have dietary restrictions due to their health-driven recipes, but they manage to provide their consumers with a bunch of unique flavors. Each deviled egg dish is prepared with the perfect amount of ingredients that is an ideal snack for all kinds of occasions, be it a casual get-together or a holiday gathering.
