Hulu’s ‘Are You My First?’ offers individuals who have never experienced intimacy the opportunity to meet someone who could be their first. In season one, Deya Bazan and Godwin Asamoah entered the experiment with similar hopes and spent much of the journey together. However, their bond was tested when they became entangled in a “love rectangle,” and it complicated their connection. Despite their efforts to push past insecurities and build trust, the process proved more difficult than they initially expected.
Deya and Godwin’s Relationship Was Tested on a Major Level
When Godwin Asamoah stepped into the season, his heart was quickly drawn toward two women, Deya Bazan and Jade Thomas. From the beginning, he felt a spark between them and tried to explore each connection through long conversations. Still, he leaned more toward Deya, who believed he was pursuing their bond wholeheartedly. This became more evident when he received the coveted “V-card,” allowing him to take someone on a special date, and he chose Deya. Their day together was filled with adventure, from ziplining and trekking to enjoying a warm brunch. While Deya hoped to seal the moment with a kiss, Godwin held back and admitted he didn’t want to be unfair in case he also pursued something with Jade.
That hesitation created a ripple of doubt in Deya’s mind. Although she continued to invest fully in their growing relationship, Godwin still carried thoughts of Jade and eventually sat down with her for meaningful conversations. When the opportunity for a date with Jade came up, he took it, leaving Deya unsettled. She felt blindsided, realizing that others in the house seemed aware of Godwin’s interest in Jade while she had been left in the dark. This sense of exclusion weighed heavily on her. Tensions escalated when Deya confronted Jade with questions about the situation. Godwin, quick to defend himself, maintained that he had always been transparent about his feelings and intentions. For Deya, however, the conflict was less about clarity and more about trust and whether she could believe in what they had built together. By the time decisions needed to be made, Deya was torn. She had invested deeply in her journey with Godwin, yet doubts lingered.
Deya Didn’t Want to Continue a Relationship With Godwin
When Deya realized that Godwin was pursuing her while also exploring a possible connection with Jade, her trust in the relationship began to fracture. She felt as though she was being kept as a second option, despite the way she had opened up to him and invested her emotions. To her, Godwin’s actions felt unreciprocated and unfair and made her question his sincerity. The situation became too heavy for her to carry, and she chose to step back rather than compromise her self-worth. When the time came for her to decide who she wanted to pair up with, she picked no one. By removing herself from the equation, she sent a clear message that her dignity and value came before settling for a man who didn’t meet her emotionally. Ultimately, Deya decided she was more important to herself than any uncertain connection.
Deya is an Entrepreneur, While Godwin is Working in Real Estate
Deya has since moved on from her reality TV experience and is now focusing on her passion project and small business, Art Me Up. It is a creative venture she founded to combine artistry with meaningful self-expression. Through this initiative, she has been able to channel her creativity into something that is curated for the community and is a fun experience for all to try. Originally from New Jersey, Deya is now based in Florida and enjoying her independent and thriving life.
