Earle Carman Has Always Spoken About Nathan Carman With Kindness
Earle Clark Carman had always dreamed of having a family of his own, and that dream seemed to come true when he married Linda Carman in the early 1990s. The couple settled in Connecticut, and on July 6, 1994, they welcomed their son, Nathan Carman, into the world. The little boy quickly became the center of their universe and the light of their lives. Although challenges arose when Nathan was diagnosed with Asperger’s syndrome, both Earle and Linda were deeply committed to supporting and caring for him. In a later interview, the former reflected on his ex-wife’s devotion and said she “doted on him, took care of him.”
Earle explained that Nathan was often resistant to receiving help, largely because he was highly functional. The label of autism, he said, was something his son disliked, as it made him feel set apart from others and troubled him deeply. After filing for their divorce in 1998, the couple began living separately, but Earle made an effort to maintain a close relationship with him in whatever ways he could. Linda took on the role of primary caregiver, yet he remained an active part of their son’s life, staying informed about both the small and significant things going on.
Earle Carman Has Been Keeping a Low Profile Since His Son’s Passing
Following the events that unfolded within the family, Earle Carman publicly addressed the media for the first time in October 2016, voicing his support for Nathan Carman. He recalled the reported outburst Nathan had at school in 2011, describing his son as being “in anguish” during that period. According to him, his son had been the target of bullying and had just lost his only companion—a horse that passed away a month before the incident. He emphasized that his son was not a danger to others and insisted that the episode was an expression of deep grief rather than intent. In his words, Nathan was more about “talk” than “action.”
In August 2022, while Nathan’s defense team was petitioning for his release, his father submitted a personal letter to the court. In it, he described Nathan as a “responsible man” and assured the judge that his son posed no threat to others—or to himself. He expressed his belief that Nathan had no reason to harm either his mother or grandfather, emphasizing that they were the two people his son had loved most. Since Nathan’s death on July 15, 2023, his father has maintained a low profile. Given the circumstances, it’s understandable that he would seek peace and privacy during such an incredibly difficult time.
