Eenie Meanie Plot Synopsis

When Edie was a teenager, she worked as a getaway driver for a criminal named Nico. She was also in a relationship with John, but he proved to be incapable of reform, and eventually, Edie decided to break up with him. Now, she is trying to get her life back on track. She goes to school, works a job, and tries not to get in trouble. This is until she discovers that she is pregnant. It turns out that about three months ago, she met with John and they hooked up. Her friend advises her not to go to John with this news, but things are more complicated and emotions run deeper between them. Edie goes to his apartment, only to find him being held at gunpoint by Nico’s men. She tries to leave, but she cannot help but save him, since he, too, has saved her on several occasions.

Helping John escape leads Edie to become entangled in his mess. She discovers that John abducted Leo, a man who works for Nico, playing poker and winning a lot of money. Edie advises John to take Leo back to Nico and apologize. But things take a drastic turn when Leo dies in a freak accident. Edie knows that Nico will kill John for this and all the other messes he has made. So, despite not wanting to be thrown back into a life of crime, she agrees to do a job for him. The plan is already laid out. The team will be stealing three million dollars from a casino where a poker tournament is being held. All Edie has to do is drive away with the car that had money in it. On the surface, it seems like a simple plan, but then, one problem after another starts to pop up, forcing Edie to do some things that she never wished she’d have to.

Is John Dead? Why does Edie Kill Him?

The casino heist has a few hitches, but eventually, it succeeds. Edie, John, and two other men who work for Nico pull it off. The only thing left to be done now is for the money to be taken back. With this, Edie will be in the clear once again, and so will John. But then, John goes on and kills Nico’s men. It turns out that he planned to run away with the money, believing that he and Edie could go together and start their lives anew. She, however, is shocked and disappointed by this sudden turn of events. When John sees it, he realises that he has made a mistake and starts to cry. Edie consoles him, and while he cries on her shoulder, she shoots him in the chest, killing him on the spot.

What happened here was that John’s plans changed when he discovered that Edie was pregnant. She told him this because she thought he was ready to change. He told her as much when they visited her father’s house. He said it was a drastic move for him, and he couldn’t do it without her by his side. She was happy to do it because she did love him after all, and with the baby, the three of them could be a family that neither of them had growing up. Edie’s plan was to settle things with Nico and go back to her college, job, and all the plans she had laid out for herself. So, when John killed Nico’s men and planned to run away with the money, he messed up the whole thing for her all over again. This made her realise that despite his best intentions, he was never going to change.

Worse, he was always going to drag her down with him, and she couldn’t help getting dragged because she would always love him. They had been through too much together to abandon each other, and because they were so deeply tied up together, there was no way that Edie could live the way she wanted as long as he was around. Above all, Edie also knew that this time, John’s mess could not be cleaned. When Leo died, Nico wasn’t too bothered because the poker player was already on a decline, and he would be of use to Nico only for so long. Had John shown up by himself, Nico would have killed him.

But when Edie came with him, the criminal saw an opportunity, and due to his soft spot for her, he would have let John go too. This time, however, John took things too far, and Edie knew that Nico wouldn’t be so forgiving this time. Even if he did find it in himself not to kill John, the price would have to be paid by Edie, because then he would ask for another favor, and then John would find a way to mess things up again, and the cycle would go on. She realises that the only way she can get out of it is by removing John from the equation, so she kills him.

Is Perm Walters Dead? Who Hired Him?

The night before the heist, Edie and John arrive in the casino, only to discover that Perm Walters is also there. He is another getaway driver who had worked with Nico, but who is not supposed to be there. Edie also knows that Perm is not the kind of person to casually hang around a place where a job has been planned, and his being at the casino is no coincidence. She is proven right when she is in the middle of the chase, trying to escape in the car with three million dollars. While the cops are after her and she can easily shake them off, she discovers that Perm is also on her tail. To counter the man, Edie and John had planned for the latter to show up during the chase, occupy or subdue Perm, and give Edie the chance to flee without a hitch. However, things go awry when John’s car is flipped and he almost dies.

As Edie tends to him, Perm drives away with the money. Fortunately, the casino guard who had been in on the plan put a tracking device on the money, which allows Edie and John to find Perm, and this time, they shoot him dead. However, that still leaves the question of who sent Perm after them. Earlier, when Edie saw Perm at the casino, she immediately rang Nico to find out if he had sent Perm as a backup. He says he didn’t, and clearly, he, too, is surprised by Perm’s presence there because he knows exactly what it means. When Edie asks how many people know about the plan, Nico says that only those involved in the plan know about it. Edie knows that she, John, and Nico are in the clear. She finds that the other two members are also not involved with Perm. This leaves only one person who knows all the ins and outs of the plan and sits comfortably in Nico’s blind spot to pull off such a thing from right under his nose: George.

Is George Dead? Does Nico Kill Him?

At the end of the day, Edie shows up at Nico’s house, where they have a chat about how things turned out. He commends her on killing John, pointing out that it was the right thing for her as well as for John himself. This, however, doesn’t make it any less painful, and Nico understands it. In fact, he is in a similar situation to Edie with John. He knows that his friend, George, has been stealing from him for years. This is the same George who constantly shows his concern for Nico’s health and welfare. Nico admits that no one has loved or cared for him the way George has, and this is the reason why he decided to look the other way all this time. But with the act of sending Perm to sabotage the mission and steal the money for himself, George has crossed a line that he cannot come back from.

It has cost Nico two good men, while Edie has lost the man she loved. As she talks about her plans for the future, where she always saw herself in a house with two bathrooms, one of which would be for John, she makes it clear that it was necessary for her to kill John to continue on the path towards her dream. Even though she loved him and even though she is pained by it, killing the father of her unborn child was the only way forward, so she did it. Now, Nico needs to make the same choice with George, or he will remain stuck in the same cycle, until one of George’s poor decisions leads to something tragic for Nico. She tells him to fix this mess, for she leaves the house, and as she walks down the street, Nico calls George into the house, and a gunshot is heard, indicating that Nico has also made the hard choice and killed his dear friend, who had become a liability to him, like John had become for Edie.
