Life changed for Ellie Green in 2019 when she returned to Prairie Village, Kansas, after spending time studying in Italy. Soon after coming home, she got into an argument with her mother, Angela Green. It was over a relatively small matter, and Ellie left the house for a short while. In the days that followed, her father, Geoffrey Green, told her that her mother had passed away. Although she tried to process the news, Ellie began questioning things when she was given a few specific details. Investigation Discovery’s ‘People Magazine Investigates: Looking for Angela’ features Ellie’s interviews, in which she shares more about what happened and whether she has found any answers.
Ellie Green Got Into an Argument With Her Mother the Day She Returned Home
Ellie Green was born in 2001 in Prairie Village, Kansas, to Angela Green and Geoffrey Green. Her mother had immigrated from China to the US, while her father worked in IT at the federal courthouse. Ellie grew up living what she has described as a fairly normal life. She has shared that she was always especially close to her mother and that the two shared a special bond. At the same time, Ellie was encouraged to excel academically and build a successful future. She attended Shawnee Mission schools from kindergarten through her senior year, graduating as valedictorian in 2018. She then enrolled at the University of Kansas to study data analytics and finance.

Ellie was enjoying college, and when she had the opportunity to travel to Italy to pursue additional studies, she was excited. She returned home to Prairie Village on June 19, 2019. However, that very evening, she and her mother, Angela, got into an argument over Ellie’s newfound independence. Ellie later said it was nothing major and believed it would be resolved quickly. Instead, her mother, who seemed very upset, asked her to leave the house and not return. Hurt and confused, Ellie went to stay with her boyfriend, Zach Krause, expecting that her mother would soon reach out and make things right. However, that is not what happened.
Ellie Green Was Told Her Mother Had a Stroke While the Latter Was in a Hospital
On June 23, Ellie received a text from her father, Geoff Green, who claimed that her mother had been taken to a psychiatric hospital after allegedly suffering a breakdown. Ellie was confused and received few clear answers. Then, on July 16, 2019, when he visited her at her boyfriend’s parents’ home, he told her that Angela had died. He said she had suffered a stroke while at the hospital. Ellie found the explanation hard to believe. What troubled her further was his request that she not inform anyone on her mother’s side of the family and that he did not want a funeral or memorial service. Though she did not understand, Ellie tried to give her father space to grieve. In the months that followed, however, she received no documentation or further details.

Feeling increasingly confused, Ellie eventually called her maternal aunt and revealed that Angela had supposedly passed away months earlier. Alarmed, her family urged her to obtain a death certificate. When she was unable to get one from her father, Ellie contacted the Kansas Department of Health and Environment. Officials there found no records of Angela being admitted to a hospital or of her death. With no documentation and no clear answers, Ellie grew more concerned. In February 2020, she formally filed a missing persons report for her mother.
Ellie Green is Working Towards Amplifying Her Mother’s Story Today
Since filing the missing persons report, Ellie Green has used multiple platforms to keep her mother’s story in the public eye. She has appeared on NBC’s ‘Dateline,’ ‘Dr. Phil, and podcasts such as ‘Voices for Justice,’ speaking openly about Angela Green’s disappearance. Ellie has also recorded conversations with her father, particularly regarding his later claims that Angela had walked away and had not actually died.

Much about her mother’s disappearance remains unclear to her. In 2022, Ellie even competed in the Miss Colorado USA pageant to bring additional attention to the case. She has hired private investigators, who have announced rewards for information. Ellie has said she simply wants answers and said, “I just want to find my mom.” Despite no major public developments, she remains determined and hopeful.
