The filming of Hallmark’s upcoming TV movie ‘Engaged To Be Murdered’ will start in Vancouver, British Columbia, this month. David I. Strasser is directing this murder mystery based on a script by Katherine Wagner. The plot centers on a murder in a small town, where a local advice columnist, privy to the town’s secrets, attempts to aid the investigation but clashes with the police detective handling the case.
As a director, Strasser’s latest project is ‘Dial S for Santa,’ which follows insurance investigator Lana Lawton, who returns home for Christmas to spend quality time with her family. However, she becomes entangled in several local robberies along Main Street. Determined to solve the case and earn a promotion, Lana teams up with police chief Nick, leading to unexpected developments in both the investigation and their relationship. Strasser also helmed ‘Mistletoe Connection,’ in which Kate, running a nostalgic gift shop, finds romance against the backdrop of Christmas and neighborhood redevelopment. His credits include ‘Christmas at the Golden Dragon,’ a tale of interconnected relationships set in a beloved midwestern Chinese restaurant facing closure during the festive season.
Strasser’s portfolio extends to ‘Campfire Christmas,’ in which romance blossoms among Peyton and her friends during a holiday-themed reunion at her family’s summer camp. Additionally, he helmed ‘A Snapshot of Forever,’ which follows wedding photographer Jessie Brooke as her life takes an unexpected turn when a Hollywood actor visits her parents’ lakeside vineyard for his sister’s wedding.
Hallmark has several murder mystery projects in the pipeline, including an adaptation of Ken Cuperus’s audiobook ‘Mistletoe Murders.’ Set to be filmed in Toronto, the series centers on Emily Lane, proprietor of the Christmas-themed store “Under the Mistletoe” in Fletcher’s Grove. Despite her cheerful demeanor, Emily is drawn to solving local mysteries, concealing a secretive past from the townsfolk. As she delves into her investigations, Detective Constable Sam Wilner becomes intrigued by her, suspecting there’s more to Emily than what meets the eye.
Vancouver also serves as the backdrop for Hallmark’s ‘A Dad For Christmas,’ highlighting the city’s prominence as a go-to location for the network’s projects. Furthermore, Hulu’s ‘Under the Bridge’ was recently filmed in Vancouver.
