Katarina Severen is set to embark on a challenging journey as a filmmaker! The former WWE wrestler will make her feature directorial debut with the thriller ‘Ensnared.’ The principal photography for the project will start on October 14 in Los Angeles, California. Severen also wrote the screenplay. The cast of the movie is currently under wraps.

The plot centers on Lara, a woman in her twenties who is looking for revenge against the man who murdered her sister. When she heads out for a quiet weekend away from home, her live-in girlfriend, Stefanie, believes she is staying at an Airbnb to work on her novel. However, Lara’s true intentions are fueled by a burning hatred towards Mickey, the man responsible for her sister’s death. A decade has passed since the incident, and the vengeful novelist has finally decided to seize her moment and track down the killer.

As the narrative progresses, Lara’s seemingly straightforward plan is thrown into disarray when Gunther Gruenwald, Mickey’s boss, sends his lackeys, Vivien and Ace, to protect the murderer. The challenge is enough for Lara to stop for a while, but she is truly taken aback when Stefanie suddenly appears at her house, complicating matters further.

Severen is a multi-talented German-born artist who stepped into the limelight through the world of professional wrestling. She was known as Katarina or Winter in Impact Wrestling and Katie Lea Burchill in WWE. Before joining WWE’s main roster, she became a two-time Women’s Champion in Ohio Valley Wrestling. After departing from the company in 2010, she became a TNA star with the ring name Winter, winning the Knockouts Tag Team Championship in December 2010 and the Knockouts Championship twice the next year. She retired from professional wrestling in 2019.

Severen starred in several projects, including ‘Sickness’ as Simone Foster, ‘Redcon-1’ as SGT Kira Paige, and ‘The Me and You Show’ as Chairhead. Her latest credits include Officer Dana Lewis in ‘Emergency: LA,’ Devil Gemini in ‘Lion-Girl,’ and The Boss in ‘Malady.’ The filmmaker has had a keen interest in writing since her childhood when her short stories were published in local German newspapers. She has written several short films and penned scripts for the TV shows ‘Katarina’s Nightmare Theater,’ ‘Relax California Style,’ and ‘Red Light Diaries.’ Her directing experience also extends to short films and TV series such as ‘Dead Man’s Hand,’ ‘Unconscionable,’ and ‘Lucille Means Light.’

When the film enters production in Los Angeles, it will join several popular revenge thrillers shot in the city. Some noteworthy examples include ‘Taken,’ ‘Memento,’ ‘Drive,’ ‘John Wick: Chapter 2,’ and ‘Kill Bill: Vol. 1.’
