When police identified Quinton Tellis as a suspect in the 2014 murder of Jessica Chambers, they discovered he was already entangled in another homicide case in Louisiana involving Ming-Chen “Mandy” Hsiao. Around this time, authorities received a tip from Eric Hill, who was Tellis’ wife’s cousin and his sister’s ex-boyfriend. Although Hill never formally testified against Tellis, he remained involved in the investigation for a significant period. His role in the case is highlighted in Investigation Discovery’s ‘Jessica Chambers: An ID Murder Mystery.’
Eric Hill Had a Long-Standing Connection With Quinton Tellis
Eric Hill had a long-standing connection with Quinton Tellis. He had once dated Tellis’ sister, Laquinta Tellis, during their time in Courtland, Mississippi, and she even had a tattoo of his name on her arm. Their paths crossed again when Tellis moved to Louisiana, where Hill was reportedly seen spending time with him regularly. He was the cousin of Tellis’ wife, Chakita Jackson. During the investigation into the murder of Ming-Chen “Mandy” Hsiao, police brought Hill in for questioning. He made a comment about the victim showing signs of torture before being killed, which was an unpublicized detail. It led investigators to believe he might know more than he initially revealed.
During the investigation, Hill was shown a lineup of photos and pointed out a man named Curtis Lemons. He failed to recognize Tellis or even acknowledge knowing him. However, when police later uncovered his close ties to the suspected killer, they brought him in for further questioning. This time, Hill changed his story and claimed that during a conversation where they were discussing their criminal pasts, Tellis confessed to stabbing a woman for her debit cards. This became a key piece of evidence and ultimately led to Quinton Tellis being charged with the unauthorized use of Ming-Chen Hsiao’s debit card. He eventually pleaded guilty to it.
Eric Hill Was Arrested on Robbery Charges
In December 2019, Eric Hill was arrested for allegedly robbing a store. The following year, in August 2020, a notarized letter surfaced in his name, retracting his earlier testimony against Quinton Tellis. In the letter, he claimed that his original statement had been coerced by police, alleging he was threatened with being implicated in another murder case he knew nothing about. He asserted that everything he had said about Tellis was false. A motion for handwriting analysis on the affidavit was granted. By October 2020, it was determined that part of the letter sent in Hill’s name had been written by Tellis. Since then, no further public updates have emerged. As of November 2020, he remained in custody at the Ouachita Correctional Center in Richwood, Louisiana, held on a $250,000 bond, with robbery charges still pending.
