In Paramount+’s ‘My Nightmare Stalker: The Eva LaRue Story,’ the primary focus is on the terror and threats faced by the ‘CSI: Miami’ fame Eva LaRue and her daughter, Kaya, for more than a decade between 2007 and 2019. The mother and daughter duo, residents of California, were sent horrifying and threatening letters and voice mails by an obsessed stalker from Ohio. Thanks to genetic genealogy, the FBI managed to identify the stalker and take him into custody in 2019, putting an end to Eva and Kaya’s nightmare.
Eva LaRue and Her Daughter Were Stalked and Threatened by an Ohio-Based Man For Over a Decade
Born on December 27, 1966, in Long Beach, California, Eva LaRue was only seven years old when her parents, Marcie and Luis LaRue, divorced. She began her acting career when she was six years old by doing commercials and print work. After graduating from Norco High School, she got into modeling and ultimately landed the role of Dr. Maria Santos Grey on ‘All My Children,’ which earned her a nomination in the category of “Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series.” During her marriage to John Callahan, she gave birth to their daughter, Kaya Callahan. Despite their divorce, Eva and John co-parented Kaya and stayed on good terms.
It was in March 2007 when she first received fan mail, which threatened her and her daughter, while on the set of ‘CSI: Miami.’ Despite the FI’s involvement, the stalker’s identity could not be identified. Over the course of the next decade, she received hundreds of threatening letters from the stalker, who wrote about his desire to rape and kill the mother and daughter, and had to move to new properties a couple of times to ensure their safety. In the meantime, she also married and divorced Joe Cappuccio, with the stalking also being one of the reasons for their separation.
With the advent of genetic genealogy, the FBI managed to identify the stalker as James David Rogers, a nurse’s assistant working at an assisted living facility in Ohio. Finally, in November 2019, he was arrested without any incident. Consequently, in April 2022, he pleaded guilty to two counts of mailing threatening communications, one count of threat in interstate communications, and two counts of stalking in violation of federal law. He was sentenced to 40 months in prison in September of the same year.
Eva LaRue Has Continued to Further Her Acting Career
For her appearance on ‘The Young and the Restless’ from 2019 to 2020, Eva LaRue won a Daytime Emmy award. Putting the traumatic stalking incident behind her, the actress joined the cast of ‘General Hospital’ in 2024. After featuring in the daytime series for over a year or so, she parted ways with the production in June 2025. During a conversation with Soap Opera Digest, she revealed, “I was originally only supposed to be on the show for a couple of months. And it ended up being a much longer run, which was great — and really fun because there are so many All My Children actors there, and so it felt like home.”
She added, “I had a blast at ‘General Hospital.’ I loved being there, and I had a lot of really great scenes, and I loved everybody that I got to work with.” As the premiere of the documentary approached, she made an appearance on ‘Live with Kelly and Mark’ and ‘CBS Mornings.’ Talking about her stalking experience, she told CBS Mornings, “I don’t think we’ll ever feel safe. Your brain never goes back to not being hyper vigilant.” By taking part in the documentary, she explained that she aimed to help other victims of stalking by advocating for firmer laws to protect them. She also attended the screening party of ‘My Nightmare Stalker: The Eva LaRue Story’ at Paramount Pictures Studios in Los Angeles, California, in November 2025.
Eva LaRue is a Travel Enthusiast and a Family Woman Today
On the personal front, Eva LaRue maintains a close-knit bond with her family, especially her daughter and siblings. On Father’s Day 2025, she greeted her late father on social media, stating, “Happy Heavenly Father’s Day Daddy♥️ Always go in for the Extra Hug & The Extra “I Love You”.…Love & Gratitude to all the Daddy’s Today & Everyday !” In the summer, she went on vacation with her friends across Europe, including Ajaccio, France. Eva also went on a 7-day Mediterranean cruise on the luxurious Scarlet Lady, stopping in Barcelona, Mallorca, Corsica, Cannes, Rome, and Pisa.
She and some of her loved ones, including her sister, Lara Rutherford, also traveled to Positano, Italy, in July 2025 and visited some famous places and eateries. That same month, she took a girls’ trip with her friends to Champagne Ville and went on a side trip to Reims and Épernay. They stayed at a beautiful place and enjoyed delicious champagne and food. In September, the 1985 high school graduate went to her 40th high school reunion at Norco High School. Being a family woman, she attended the wedding of her nephew, KJ, and Sabrina, and wished them a “lifetime of gorgeous sunsets together.” Apart from being a proud mother to Kaya, she is also a loving sister to her siblings, including Lara, Louie, and Stacey Hiles Lynch.
