As amateur survivalists face harsh weather and food scarcity in the brutal wilderness, each of them is pushed to the limits of their physical and emotional endurance in season 2 of Fox’s ‘Extracted.’ Episode 3, appropriately titled ‘The Longest Night,’ begins as a test of endurance after the second emotional extraction of Jessica-Ray. With the Headquarter (HQ) still reeling from the departure, the concern also rises about Amey and the other contestants who still do not have any fire. As the night stretches on longer than anyone anticipates, the survivalists face the toughest survival trial yet.
A Critical Supply Drop Turns Into a Nerve-Wracking Test of New Alliances
The episode begins with the focus on Trung and Skyler, who are worried for Amey, but they admit that their strategy needs to be more cutthroat. There are now nine remaining survivalists in the wild with minimal supplies, and some, like Amey, Rhoman, and Summer, are struggling to boil water without a fire, leaving them dehydrated. On the other hand, Doug feels the lack of food, which makes his sons concerned. Alec and Dayton reveal that they are competing for redemption. Doug originally owned a restaurant, and he expected his sons to be ready to run the business. In his confessional, Doug reveals that Alec and Dayton unfortunately faced leadership issues. It eventually led them to sell the restaurant. Hence, Alec and Dayton feel that it is their chance to show Doug that they can win as a team.

Meanwhile, Katie’s sister, Emily, notes that Doug’s family is their primary ally since Dayton and Alec are also siblings like her and Carly. The energy in the Headquarters (HQ) kicks up a notch with an incoming message. It is finally announced that it’s time for a supply drop, and every family now has the chance to get their survivalist the critical item they need. For this supply drop, each family shall enter the supply room one by one and select one item to send to their contestant. The order in which they enter the supply room doesn’t matter. Luke’s brothers, Daniel and David, become the first family to enter, followed by the others. After the selection of items is complete, the families are informed that only five of them will be able to send supplies to their loved ones within 3 minutes.
In that duration, the families must unanimously decide which contestants will receive the supplies. For every 3 minutes that pass without a unanimous decision, one less supply will be sent. As the countdown finally begins, Polly’s family sacrifices their supply, with Bailey noting that some survivalists truly need fire while Polly still has some matches left. It doesn’t take much time for the others to agree that Rhoman, Amey, Summer, and RJ truly need fire, so they become the top four choices. When Alec and Dayton note that Doug should receive the food since he threw up the previous night, Katie’s family steps down, choosing to help their ally. However, Luke’s brother quickly objects to Doug being chosen since he has a ferro rod and a big potato.
While Some Contestants Celebrate Lifesaving Supplies, Others Lean on Positivity
As the last few seconds tick away, Daniel and David agree to let Alec and Dayton send Doug food on the condition that Luke’s family will get first priority the next time. Ultimately, it is unanimously decided that Amey, Rhoman, RJ, Summer, and Doug will be the ones to receive the supplies, leaving Katie, Luke, Polly, and Eric with nothing. Soon after, an argument breaks out between Luke’s family and Doug’s, with each of them questioning the other’s integrity. The focus quickly shifts to the survivalists who are informed about the incoming supply drop. It doesn’t take much time for each competitor to collect their supply crates one by one. While Amey, Rhoman, RJ, Summer, and Doug become elated to finally receive what they wanted, the rest of the contestants are left disappointed.

When RJ receives the ferro rod, Makala expresses her hope that it will help him mentally check in and push himself to reach the end of the game. As the spotlight falls on Polly, she discloses that receiving no supply at her age and after fighting cancer is truly difficult. She continues that although she doesn’t want to play the cancer card, she is competing to prove to herself she is a fighter and cancer didn’t break her. Polly further reveals that three years ago, she found out she had stage 3 uterine cancer. This makes Bailey emotional, and she steps out of HQ teary-eyed, noting that she knows the nice people finish last in this competition, but she isn’t willing to play it dirty either. Although Katie hasn’t received any supplies, she keeps a positive outlook and remarks that she will keep speaking as if her sisters are right beside her.
Katie opens up that she, Emily, and Carly are a team, and the survivalists refuse to quit on that idea. Meanwhile, the focus shifts to Rhoman, who has successfully lit a fire and has made his way to the lake to catch fish with the fishing line. In his confessional, the survivalist reveals that for his brother, Dallas, the goal in the competition is to win money and not to see him succeed. Although Rhoman initially struggles to catch the fish, he eventually succeeds. Soon after, his family at the HQ receives an advantageous message, revealing that since Rhoman has caught the first fish in the competition, he has earned an advantage. Lynsey and Dallas are then asked to make their way to the supply room to learn more about it.
Secrecy and Tension Collide as Families Prepare For a Nighttime Survival Trial
Once Lynsey and Dallas enter the supply room, they receive an envelope containing the timeout power card. It allows Rhoman’s family to exile one pair of family members from HQ for a 4-hour timeout, meaning they will not be able to watch or listen to their survivalist. Before heading back to HQ, Rhoman and Lynsey decide they must wait for the right time to use the card and will not tell any other family members. So, when others ask them what advantage they have received, Lynsey confesses that she and Dallas cannot discuss it. As the next morning rolls in, Summer is still seen struggling to start a fire with her ferro rod. Shortly after, the families at the HQ receive an announcement about the upcoming survival trial, but it is not an ordinary one, as it will take place in the darkness of night.

To reach a supply crate containing a valuable item, each survivalist must travel through the wilderness at night and navigate to it, relying on the light provided by their family. It is soon revealed that the families at the HQ will have 1 hour to charge lantern batteries using a quick hand generator, which they must first assemble. They can also write the contestants a note to help them reach the supply drop. If their loved one’s lantern runs out of power during the survival trial, they will be unable to find their way back to camp, leaving them stranded in the forest overnight. The families are then directed to the deck, where all the pieces, tools, and instructions they need to build their generator are kept. While Daniel and David are confident they can make it since they are construction workers, Trung feels good about it since he was in the Navy’s engineering department.
The faster each family can assemble the generator, the more time they will receive to charge the battery. While Luke’s brothers become the first ones to assemble the generator, Trung realizes that he has received a broken piece, which slows down the process for him. In the meantime, a disagreement arises between Makala and Tanisha over the generator. In her confessional, Tanisha reveals that, since Makala is the big sister and always bossy toward her, Makala directs her on what to do. On the other hand, Nina discloses that since she is good with directions, she will write a note, mentioning the rough direction to help guide Eric. As the time to charge the battery finally comes to an end, Skyler and Trung are disappointed because Amey’s battery isn’t charging properly due to a broken part of the generator.
The Dreaded Survival Trial Begins With Faulty Lanterns and Flawed Notes
Luke’s family also reveals that they had forgotten to write the note while charging the battery and received only the last few seconds to write the incomplete message. After each family keeps their lantern in the respective crates, it is disclosed that Luke and Eric’s families were the most efficient with their time. Unfortunately, Amey and RJ’s family only managed to generate limited power. Back inside their room, Makala and Tanisha have an argument, where the latter strictly mentions that she doesn’t want to be talked down to. Tanisha also states that if that happens again, she will exit from the competition. It isn’t long before the survivalists are informed that critical supplies are hidden in the forest, and they must find them after dark.

Each of the survivalists receives their letter and lantern, during which Amey discovers from the note that her lantern isn’t charged properly. On the other hand, Nina and Sandra become exasperated as Eric fails to see “roughly” written on the note along with the direction, which means he may move in the wrong direction if he follows only the note. As the darkness eventually falls over the wild, the survival trial finally begins. Skyler and Trung become increasingly worried, noting that they don’t want Amey to sleep in the dark. On the other hand, Makala and Tanisha grow visibly agitated because they feel RJ is slowing down due to his hurting knees. As each contestant begins navigating to the crates, Katie is the first to reach the location and is shocked to find a bird as the protein.
RJ and Doug Are Left Stranded in the Dark Wilderness as Their Lanterns Die
Katie is soon followed by Luke, but it isn’t the case with Doug, whose sons reveal he may be struggling because he can’t read a map or use a compass. Similarly, Eric also becomes lost as he keeps walking through the same area again and again. However, much to Skyler and Trung’s happiness, Amey finds her way to the crate, followed by Rhoman and Polly. Once all five survivalists who have their protein start making their way back to their shelter, Summer and Eric finally locate the crates. A predicament soon arises as Summer hears a bear moving near her while Katie’s lantern reaches the verge of running out of battery.

Thankfully, Katie finds her way back to her shelter in time, just like Polly, Amey, Rhoman, and Summer. After much struggle, RJ also manages to collect his protein. Meanwhile, the attention shifts to Luke, who stands away from his original path to his shelter by going sideways. Sadly, he suffers a bad fall, hurting his kneecap, which only heightens his brothers’ concern for him. As Doug and RJ begin making their way towards their camp, the lantern’s battery unfortunately gives out, leaving both stranded in pitch darkness. It prompts RJ’s mother, Makala, to state that it is now becoming hard for her not to hit the button. It is yet to be seen which contestant finally gives in to the darkness and is extracted.
