Fake Profile Season 3 Ending Explained: Are Camila and Miguel Dead or Alive?

Created by Pablo Illanes, Netflix’s ‘Fake Profile,’ or ‘Perfil Falso,’ begins with Camila looking for the man of her dreams on a dating app, but quickly spirals into a murder conspiracy over the course of three seasons. Each new hurdle seems designed specifically to test her love for Miguel, who has fought tooth and nail to be with her. However, when Angela, his ex-wife, returns to the scene with new plans for revenge, both Camila and Miguel find their paths narrowing. Their personal differences also play into this newfound friction, as does the arrival of a brand new serial killer, who exclusively targets dancers at Camila’s club. By the end of season 3, this Colombian romance drama zeroes in on a single question: whether or not a peaceful and loving life for Camila and Miguel is even possible. SPOILERS AHEAD.

Fake Profile Season 3 Plot Recap

‘Fake Profile’ season 3 begins with Camila and Miguel celebrating life as sensuously as possible, when they meet a couple celebrating their honeymoon. Oliver and Joanna are in an open marriage and soon invite Camila and Miguel to have a foursome; Miguel almost accepts until he recognizes Oliver as his estranged brother. From there, the group’s dynamic changes significantly, as Miguel refuses to tell Camila why there is so much friction between him and Oliver. Meanwhile, Angela reunites with Jessica and then fakes her own imprisonment at the hands of Joaquin, only to be arrested by the police once again. All of this, however, is the result of a plan carefully concocted by her and Joaquin, and Oliver and Joanna are actually in on it.

While Joanna tries to seduce Miguel with varying degrees of success, things develop very quickly between Oliver and Camila, and before long, the latter begins craving an open relationship. This, in turn, stirs more trouble between her and Miguel, and as a result, the therapy sessions fail. Things get progressively worse when one of the dancers at Camila’s club, Golden Lips, is murdered, with signs pointing towards a serial killer. At the same time, things get steamy between Lucas and his nanny, Becky, who also turns out to be working for Angela. When the court trials begin, Angela is found not guilty of the murders and is released back into society, following which she quickly begins phase two of her plan to take down Camila.

A new dancer named Jade Munroe is introduced to Golden Lips, and Inti immediately takes a liking to her. However, their relationship stumbles when Jade is poisoned and nearly dies, only for Inti to side with Angela during the hearing. Meanwhile, the truth about Oliver reaches Camila’s ears, and she confronts Miguel for not being transparent with her. Not long after, Becky drugs Miguel and sexually assaults him, leading everyone, including Camila, to get the wrong picture. Though Miguel tries to prove his innocence, the cracks in their relationship seem too wide by this point, and the two part ways. Sometime later, Eva gets kidnapped by Joaquin, and it takes Camila and company nearly a year to track down where she might be. However, the mission to recover Eva inevitably takes a darker turn, jeopardizing everyone’s life in the process.

Fake Profile Season 3 Ending: Are Camila and Miguel Dead? Do They Survive the Fall?

‘Fake Profile’ ends with the cliffhanger of Camila and Miguel falling off a cliff at Desiderio Island and seemingly into the ocean. Adding to the ambiguity is the fact that the show intentionally cuts off before we get a look below, leaving us with only the horror on Eva and Indira’s faces. Angela, who until a year ago was plotting revenge, is similarly taken aback, as it’s not just Camila’s life that’s at stake now, but also her ex-husband’s. Initially, only Camila is pushed to the edge of the cliff by Joaquin as part of a ritual sacrifice. However, before he can make the final push, Indira arrives at the scene with her team, including Miguel, who lunges towards Camila. In the ensuing scuffle, the rope keeping her stable snaps, and not even Miguel’s holding on is enough, as they both get pulled down.

The fact that we are never shown Camila and Miguel’s fate likely suggests their survival. The show is no stranger to fakeout deaths and cliffhangers of this kind, as they keep building the mystery. What makes this confusing in this case, however, is that season 3 has been billed as the last entry in the ‘Fake Profile’ series. As such, the creators may intend to keep things ambiguous forever, with our only clue being the cut-away shot to the sea, which is traditionally a symbol of something grim transpiring behind the camera. As Joaquin’s intention was always to push Camila to her death, it’s unlikely that the bottom of the cliff has enough water to cushion the fall. We also see chunks of rock fly down alongside Camila and Miguel, effectively doubling the danger they are dealing with.

In the scenario that this is the last we ever see of Camila and Miguel, the show leaves almost every conflict within their relationship open-ended. The last actual moment of tension between them that we see is when Miguel watches Camila have sex with Oliver. Not long after, he resumes his relationship with Angela, effectively solidifying the rift. Though both of them have had ample time to reflect, their refusal to clear the air effectively becomes a bane, burying any possibility of a resolution or reunion under an unresolved ending. Still, the fact that Miguel still selflessly jumps in to save Camila shows that his feelings for her are as strong as ever. However, that only matters if they survive the fall, and for now, all we are left with is a looming tragedy.

Does Eva Return to the Family? What Happens to Angela?

While Camila and Miguel’s ambiguous fate takes over the season finale, the actual reason the entire team is on the island is to rescue Eva. At the end, though Angela is reunited with her daughter and is ready to take her home, it’s unclear whether Eva herself wishes that. It is implied that Joaquin brainwashed and possibly groomed Eva during that entire one-year period, and following that, she is effectively a sworn member of his cult, The Naturists. This reflects in how it was Eva who reported Camila’s presence to Joaquin, essentially setting the stage for her execution. Even if Indira manages to extricate Eva from this cult, undoing all the trauma might prove exceptionally difficult, especially given the already fraught relationship between Eva and Angela.

In a way, Angela is directly at fault for Eva’s cruel fate, not only because she engineered the whole kidnapping scheme, but also because she left Eva with Joaquin, a monster in human skin. What Angela couldn’t predict is that Joaquin lords over an entire island cult and only sees people like Angela and Camila as pawns in his games. While the police mission is entirely centered around retrieving Eva and taking down the cult, Angela’s involvement in all of this almost slips under the radar. As always, Indira doesn’t have enough evidence to connect her to the conspiracy, which means there is a very good chance Angela will walk free once again. However, while she might escape the law, reconciling with her daughter might prove to be an impossible task.

Who is the Killer? Where Does Becky Go?

The serial killer targeting Golden Lips dancers turns out to be none other than Becky, Lucas’ nanny, who is in cahoots with Angela. Through their conversations, we learn that Becky is a single mother who is drowning in debt, which is how Angela is able to prey on her in the first place. As part of the larger revenge plan, Becky is tasked with not only seducing Miguel and causing his breakup, but also with the killing of everyone close to Camila. Alongside the name “Red Velvet,” the mask she dons foreshadows what we see Angela take on in season 1. Donning that same personage, Becky begins to purposefully imitate the murders from season 2, raising doubts in the police’s heads about whether Angela and Joaquin were the killers to begin with.

Becky’s imitation of Joaquin and Angela is also intended to terrorize Camila into choosing between Miguel and the safety of her club. In doing so, Becky essentially reverses the premise of season 2, as Angela targeted unfaithful men; Becky murders the women of Golden Lips, reiterating the same cycle of abuse that she has been endlessly subjected to. Though Camila is intended to be Becky’s final target, the fight quickly takes an unexpected turn, with Camila surviving and figuring out the killer’s identity. Even when Becky tries to escape everything by stabbing Angela and fleeing with Lucas, that hope is short-lived, as Indira arrests her and gets a confession that can get Angela behind bars. However, Joaquin’s kidnapping of Eva takes precedence over all of this, bringing things to a boil on the island.

Does Joaquin Get Arrested? What Happens to His Cult?

The final moments of ‘Fake Profile’ strongly imply Joaquin’s arrest, which essentially pulls the plug on his cult as well. Though the police department is fooled for over a year by Joaquin faking his death, Indira takes the gamble when Camila figures out the island’s exact location. Their real challenge, as it stands, is to take down Joaquin’s entire, massive cult with just their small force. Given how remote the island is, it’s possible that additional help might not even make it on time before Joaquin defeats Indira and her crew. However, that is the worst-case scenario, and it is more likely that Indira arrests him and then ships him back to the mainland, where trials can resume.

While we don’t get a good look at The Naturists as a cult, it is apparent that most of its members have been brainwashed to some extent. To that end, its dismantling opens up the bigger challenge of all these survivors being rehabilitated, starting with Eva. For Joaquin, the season ends up right where it begins, with him in jail. However, the reveal of the cult explains why he has always had the criminals at his disposal, which makes it entirely possible that he has more connections who can help him break out of prison. Though Indira has been proven right time and again, the police force still disapproves of her radical investigative methods, but in Joaquin’s case, the case is ironclad. The only remaining mystery, as such, is what becomes of Camila and Miguel in this grand scheme of things.
