Farmer Wants a Wife Season 3 Episode 5 Recap: I’m Gonna Miss You, Cowboy

The barn dance is buzzing with country tunes, soft string lights, and a whole lot of emotions as Fox’s ‘Farmer Wants a Wife’ season 3 episode 5, titled ‘I’m Gonna Miss You, Cowboy,’ commences. However, picking up right from where the last episode concluded, it is not just a dance but rather a turning point for Samantha. From the moment she met farmer John Sansone, they shared a strong connection. Yet, over time, things became a little complex for them, driving her to decide that while it will be hard for her to leave, she will not be hesitant to do so if needed. This also gives the other farmers and their hopeful brides a look into just how complex this experience can be.

An Unexpected Goodbye and Surfacing Emotions Gradually Raise the Tension

The episode starts with Samantha and John moving away from the dance floor to have a conversation. She says that he is everything she has looked for in a partner. However, a few little things make her feel that she is not the one for him. While John likes to take the lead, she is someone who also wants to be in charge. Hence, she believes he needs someone to let him be in the driver’s seat. John appreciates her honesty, but asserts that he has been happy to have her around. Yet, they eventually realize there is no future for them together. After Samantha bids goodbye to her fellow participants, she discloses in her exit interview that she cannot visualize herself with John in the future. John divulges in his confessional that he will obviously miss her, but it will finally allow him to get to know the other girls better.

In the meantime, Claire reveals that she is relieved that Samantha has decided to leave because she had such a strong connection with John that it didn’t leave any room for her. Now, she feels that she and John will be able to get closer. On the other hand, in farmer Jay Woods’ group, Karina is stressed because of the drama with T’yana, especially as she believes it has hindered Jay from seeing her happy side. Meanwhile, T’yana feels that her disagreement with the other ladies might jeopardize her connection with the farmer. She tells Halleh that she feels left out and is unaware of why she is isolated. As she gets emotional and tears up, Jay notices it and asks Karina about the same. When she states that T’yana is emotional because she is not getting any attention, he decides to speak to her.

As Jay whisks T’yana aside to figure out the situation, she reveals that she feels left in a way she hasn’t since high school, which was also a difficult time for her. When Jay reassures her that she needs to keep in mind that she is here for him, T’yana clarifies that she perceives that he doesn’t want her here. The farmer comforts her by saying that he is happy to have her around and actually does want to explore more of their connection. However, he does not feel great that there is disagreement among the girls on his farm, so he promises to figure out how to navigate that. With a solo date on the line by the night’s end, one of Colton Hendrick’s potential partners Zoe notes that it is hard for her to see him getting close to the other women. So, she decides to embrace her assertive side and pulls him aside to speak.

As Deep Conversations Unfold, the Farmers Face a Tough Decision

Zoe discloses to Colton that she is really passionate about her career and wants to become an anesthesiologist. So, if he is looking for a stay-at-home wife, it may be a deal breaker for them. To her surprise, Colton is impressed with this and states that he will be her biggest supporter because he also has some big dreams. He would love for his children to grow up knowing their mother saves lives. He divulges in his confessional that Zoe is a smart and beautiful woman, and it is something he is attracted to. However, he notes that after speaking to her, making a decision will be hard because he really feels that his strongest connection is with Bailee. Meanwhile, the guest appearance from Mitchell from season 2 of the show ends with him advising the farmers to look for authenticity and for someone who puts in efforts for them.

Jay observes that Mitchell’s suggestion is really helpful, and he can truly see Karina making an effort every day. To explore their connection better, they step away from the noise to have a heartfelt conversation. Jay confides in her that she wakes up the earliest and is the best on the farm. Meanwhile, Karina notes that she wants to see the different side of him that she has only heard about from his friends and cousins. Jay expresses that she is a beautiful person inside and out. As their chemistry turns into a spark, the duo ends up sharing a passionate kiss. On the other hand, Matt decides to change his situation and leads Alexandra onto the dance floor, where she notes that although she likes him, she is unsure if he feels the same.

As their conversation flows, Alexandra reassures Matt Warren that she trusts him, and he observes that she always lightens the mood. In the meantime, Kaylee opens up before John and states that she sees qualities in him that she wants in her husband one day. She also states she does not wish to go home before he truly gets to know and understand her. John realizes she has been very open and vulnerable with him throughout this experience. With Samantha not in the picture, he will navigate with an open mind. When the barn comes to an end, the farmers have to make the toughest decision of the night – they have to choose their next solo date. Colton announces that he will invite Zoe since he has had his eyes on her since day one. Matt chooses Alexandra to discover if it can turn into something serious.

The Solo Dates Leave the Farmers With Some Deep Connections and Deeper Questions

John ends up selecting Kaylee because of her openness from the beginning. As for Jay, although T’yana wants his next chance, to her dismay, he decides to spend more time with Karina because she has been vulnerable with him. This leaves the latter feeling giddy, and she is excited to see where this leads. As John and Kaylee head out for their date at the golf course the next morning, he wishes to spend a relaxing time with her. After a fun time playing golf together, they finally have deeper conversations about her family and life. She also emotionally reveals that one of her past relationships ended abruptly, expressing that she always gives too much love without receiving in return. She wants a serious relationship with someone who will be able to handle her emotions. However, this revelation leaves John under pressure.

John observes that she has a clear, precious heart, but it is fragile, so he gets worried about maybe hurting her as the experiment goes on. Meanwhile, Colton has decided to show Zoe around his small town of Mena, Arkansas. He takes her to his friend’s store, and as they explore boots and necklaces, Zoe remarks that she loves his goofy nature. She notes that she always wants to have a good time with her partner, just like this. Colton gifts her a necklace and feels the chemistry between them, but he is worried that moving here will become a barrier to her dreams. On the other hand, Matt and Alexandra have set out on a romantic date, with her hoping to see more affection from him. The farmer decides to follow his instincts, and they start opening up about the different experiences they have had in life.

While Matt reveals that he and his past girlfriend grew apart over time, Alexandra discloses that she had married quite young. She had been in that union for 5 years before she got divorced, just a year and a half earlier. Matt understands her position, and they speak about their expectations regarding having children. Alexandra expresses that she wants to have two or three kids, but the number may rise if she becomes a stay-at-home mother. The farmer agrees with her, reminiscing about his childhood days. Alexandra thinks that she and Matt have a lot in common, but she wants him to open up a little more. On the other hand, although Colton has fun spending time with Zoe, he realizes that he also needs to learn if she can potentially move to Mena for good.

Romance Slowly Begins to Blossom, Bringing Farmers One Step Closer to Finding Love

Zoe tells Colton that she loves the small town because it is quiet, and she does not see herself finding her person in the city. When he asks her if she can visualize moving here at some point, she surprises him. Zoe reveals that she needs a change and is open to the possibility. This makes him immensely happy, and he informs her that there are a few job openings for her position in the town. Colton discloses that he had been looking at them before coming on their date. He learns she will complete her Bachelor’s degree in the next few years and is excited because she can actually see herself in his hometown. Colton notes that it has been his best date so far. When a producer asks him why he did not try to kiss her, he replies that he loves to listen to her more than anything. Colton blushes and adds that he cannot stop thinking about her.

Meanwhile, Jay arranges a unique date to introduce Karina to an important part of his life – youth football. As they spend time with the kids practicing football, he notes that he really connects with her on a new level. Karina soon arrives at the romantic setting prepared by Jay and expresses that she is glad to be part of his world. Jay is thrilled to learn that she has six siblings, but remarks that moving to Alabama will be a big step for her. She quickly replies that they will eventually figure it out. Jay expresses that he feels confident in their connection, and as sparks begin to fly, they share a romantic kiss, inching toward a potential love story. With romance blooming and new connections forming, we are excited to see what the next step will be for the farmers to ultimately find their person.
