Under the golden glow of the countryside sun, Fox’s ‘Farmer Wants a Wife’ has returned for its highly awaited season 3. This heartwarming reality show will follow four hard-working farmers as they open their hearts and farms to a group of single women who are looking for the love of their lives in an unconventional setting. Over the past two seasons, the show has succeeded in keeping the audience’s attention enraptured with beautiful romances and cozy blossoms of love, and season 3 promises to be no different. After all, each masculine farmer wants to settle down for good too, which becomes evident in the debut episode itself, aptly titled ‘DTF? Down to Farm?’
The Four Farmers Meet Their Matches and Begin Their Journey of Love
The season kicks off with the introduction of four farmers, who share their heartfelt reasons for participating in this show. Setting the stage for an emotional and romantic ride, Matt Warren reflects back on his past heartbreak and expresses how he is completely ready to take a leap of faith and find a partner here. On the other hand, Jay Woods shares how he was once a football player, but then he ultimately chose to return to his granddad’s farm. So now, with time having passed, he just wants someone to share his beautiful life and land with. Meanwhile, Colton Hendricks reveals that he has a three-year-old son who is the center of his world, and at present, he is looking for someone who will understand the small-town way of life and embrace it wholeheartedly.
Lastly, John Sansone discloses how his family has farmed for over six generations. Adding to this, he divulges his belief that no one is meant to walk this earth alone and says that he is completely putting his faith into the experience to find the love of his life. That’s when several young ladies from all around the nation arrive, hoping that one of these farmers will be their soulmate. However, one thing that they need to keep in mind is that life can be quite hard here, and the road to love is pretty rough. Host Kimberley Williams-Paisley explains that the single women have already explored the farmers’ profiles to find the answer to whether any of them is the man of their dreams. As the host introduces the farmers and their potential matches to one another, she reveals that just like them, she was once a city girl who married a country boy (singer-songwriter Brad Paisley) even though she had never been on a farm before.
Kimberley further jokes about how it was not love at first sight, but they have been married for 21 years, marking a path for hope. The farmers open up about their current lives and what they expect from the experience. Matt discloses that his brother and sister-in-law had bought the farm a couple of years back, and he jumped in to help and started farming. On the other hand, Jay says that pertaining to an injury during a game, he retired from college football, which was mainly his life before this. Ultimately, he decided it was time to return to his roots. Then, John let everyone know that he has been juggling farming and law school. When Kimberly asks Colton about his unique life, he expresses how his son is the best thing to ever happen to him. However, emotions slowly seem to take over him, and he ends up getting teary-eyed. He wishes to provide his son with the values that a farm life can teach.
With Introductions Out of the Way, The Time For First Meets Comes
Kimberley explains to the 4 farmers that each of them will meet eight ladies but will only pick only 5 of them by the end of their first meet to experience life on the farm. Here, they can navigate through their connections to finally decide who they think is the perfect match for them. With trust in their intuitions, a promise to listen to their heart’s deepest, and hopeful optimism, they move forward with the experiment to see if there is indeed a special someone waiting for them at the end of the road. That’s when Matt speaks up about the tragic passing of both his parents and how that forced his brother and sister-in-law to take over their family farm overnight.
Matt explains that his farm mainly grows avocados and exotic fruits. Following this revelation, he meets Chelsi, and they quickly become excited to find common ground over the fact they both have real estate licenses. He excitedly says that he has had the license since he was merely 19 years old and proceeds to joke that he can take the farming division while she can handle the real estate sector. After the meeting, Chelsi gleefully expresses that she feels there is a connection between them. Similarly, Matt is quite impressed and says that she is surely coming back.
Meanwhile, Jay opens up about how his farm was initially his granddad’s, meaning it has been there in the family for generations. However, when the latter passed away, it was sold, and the next thing he knew, he was becoming a football star. He was busy traveling and playing when, unfortunately, an injury got the best of him. This pushed Jay to rediscover himself in his country community, surrounded by the love of his family. His meeting with Julia turns out to be quite interesting when she brings out a picture of her wearing a cowboy hat. She confidently lets him know that even though she is a city girl, she can easily look the part. By the end of it, both individuals are quite satisfied.
Sparks Fly as the Farmers Dive Deeper Into Their Dates
As the episode progresses, the focus gradually shifts to John, who explains that he works on his farm alongside his grandfather. He then expresses his hope to continue the family legacy of farming with the love of his life. He further adds that he wants someone who is kind-hearted but also has a tough side. Samantha is seemingly the epitome of his desires, which becomes evident when the beauty does not hesitate to show off her fierce side by firing him up with her questions. When he admits he is not a football fan, she immediately lets him know that he should start working on that because she and her family love sports. Although they have a great conversation, John and Samantha are left unsure of how to perceive each other, especially in terms of how they would fit together in the long run.
On the other hand, Colton reveals that he is a rancher and a horse trainer. He further divulges he has been divorced before but is thankful for his ex-wife and the experiences they had together since he would not have his little boy without them. His first date begins with Keeley, and they end up having a great time together. When he asks if she likes kids, she admits that affection towards them comes naturally to her, which is partly why she decided to be a dance teacher to little children. Adding more to their chemistry, she ends up giving him a dance lesson too.
Colton becomes so immersed in her charm that he says he regrets not saving her for last. The dates then keep unfolding for the farmers, one by one. Jordyn Mallory meets Matt with her guitar in hand and even sings a beautiful song for him, following which a few ladies realize they might have to step on some toes for their own sake. From the beginning, Halleh has her eyes set on Jay, and she discloses in her confessional that she is willing to grab the opportunity even if it means not taking the high road. Yet, romance seems to be brewing between Grace and Jay as the duo instantly connect with each other. She playfully remarks that she loves goats, just for him to assure her that she will meet really big ones at his farm. After a few more fun conversations each, the time for the selection dawns on them.
The Final Selection of the Five Picks Sparks Tension and Excitement
As the time for selecting which of the ladies will move forward in this experiment arrives, their nerves gradually start kicking in. The farmers concede that each woman has a great personality. However, they also know there is a risk because choosing the wrong person could mean letting their forever partner slip through their fingers, which they desperately want to avoid. Nevertheless, they carefully make their decisions, and John is the first one to rip the band-aid off. He states that he is fearful of sending his future wife home, but he still proceeds with his picks because that’s what this experience requires. One by one, all four farmers select their picks, and each of them openly admits that they hope they made the right call. John selects Lily, Chloe, Kaylee, and Claire. Before choosing Samantha, he admits that she has been a flirt and seems like a challenge, but since he likes a challenge, he will select her.
For Colton, the weight of the decision is clear. He carefully chooses Taylar, Bailee Wallace, Keely, Zoe, and Hope, but his concern lingers as he adds that he does not want to let anyone down. Unfortunately, Makenzie does not receive her rejection well. Overcome with her emotions, she breaks down in tears and refuses to give an exit interview. Then, Jay finalizes his decision by picking T’yana, Vivian-Lee, Karina, Grace, and Julia, whereas Matt rounds out the selections with Alexandra, Jordyn, Halleh, Rachel, and Chelsi. Irrespective of the goodbyes, the air is filled with anticipation as Kimberley announces that the night is not over yet. She tells the men that it is now time for them to choose the person they want to have their first 24-hour solo date with, where they will be able to get to know each other better without any interruptions.
With expectations running high, each woman is hopeful to hear her name. But alas, only four of them could shine. While Matt chooses Jordyn for his first date, Jay unsurprisingly calls out Grace’s name. She is unable to hide her shock and excitement before admitting that she feels awkward and shy. Expressing his eagerness to get to know her better, John asks Samantha out for his first date. What really sets the tone for just how much potential there is for a true romance, though, comes at the end when Colton picks Bailee. Her face absolutely lights up when he calls her name, and as they leave for the farm, he even leans in for a passionate kiss. In his confession, he expresses that he finds her very stunning, and the moment was too good not to show his affection. This only gets us excited for what is to come, especially as the connections everyone is already starting to build here are bound to change their lives forever.
