Rafael is Revealed to be Fernando’s Biological Father

The viewers find out early in the narrative that Rafael, the Governor, is Fernando’s real father. However, the truth remains hidden from Fernando. Long back, Helena and Rafael used to be in a relationship; however, when he found out about her pregnancy, Rafael abandoned her. His act of selfishness comes as a result of his political ambitions and insecurities around being a father. Due to his betrayal, Helena becomes a single mother, making her dependent on Claudio. Rafael carries on with his life without bothering his son. However, when a video of him engaging in sexual activities gets leaked, he finds himself in contact with Helena again.

Due to the dangers faced by herself and her son after the leaking of her intimate video with Iván, Helena moves into Rafael’s house for safety. Without knowing the truth, the young boy starts to bond with Rafael, who agrees not to tell the truth to his son, but finds it increasingly difficult to do so. After Claudio’s murder, the situation gets emotionally complicated for Fernando, leading him to further bond with the man he thinks is just his mother’s friend. However, at a later stage, overcome by emotions, Rafael tells his son the truth. The revelation shocks Fernando, who accuses the politician of abandoning him as a child and letting him suffer at the hands of an abusive man like Claudio. The boy finds it difficult to process his complex emotions, and also the way Rafael hides his relationship with a trans woman named Dora.

The emotional chaos takes Fernando beyond forgiveness. However, in a heartwarming moment, the politician accepts on live TV that he is in a relationship with a trans woman and that his son helped him. Rafael accepts his fatherhood on live TV, which leads to a change in Fernando’s behavior. Towards the end of the narrative, the Governor asks his son for forgiveness and promises to be there for him as a friend in the future. Despite initial reluctance, Fernando shakes his real father’s hand, indicating that he will eventually forgive him for his sins and have a good relationship with him in the future.
