Gandhari Ending Explained: Does Bani Rescue Mishty?

‘Gandhari’ explores the struggles of Bani Sikdar, a loving mother. Her world revolves around her husband, Gokul, and daughter, Mishty. During a family trip, Mishty is abducted in broad daylight in Joypurra, a town full of secrets. While chasing the kidnapper, Bani is severely injured, causing temporary loss of sight. Bani and Gokul are desperate to save Mishty and seek the help of local cops, to no avail. Realizing that a much larger and more sinister game is unfolding, Bani and Gokul decide to fight against the odds.

Fighting against a deceptive law enforcement system and her own compromised eyesight, Bani wages a deeply personal battle to rescue Mishty. During her secret investigation, Bani learns that a local gang might be connected to whatever has happened to Mishty. When multiple suspects arise, Bani must use her intelligence and fighting skills to overcome the hurdles thrown in her path. With Mishty’s fate hanging in the balance, Bani comes across disturbing clues that cause great chaos and unimaginable violence. SPOILERS AHEAD.

Gandhari Plot Synopsis

Bani, her husband, Gokul, and their young daughter, Mishty, are a happy family. They board a train bound for Gomvati to celebrate a holiday. When the train stops in the town of Joypurra, Mishty is kidnapped. When Bani runs behind the kidnapper, she mistakenly hits her head on a heavy object, which leads to loss of sight. Bani and Gokul file a complaint with the local police station but receive little help. A doctor tells Bani that her vision might return to normal if she takes care and takes the right medication. Bani and Gokul’s search for their daughter leads them to Shishukal Shelter Home, a local establishment headed by a woman named Churni, that helps children in need. Bani and Gokul don’t get any answer and remain worried for Mishty. Bani crosses paths with Jhunu Amba, a former mentor.

It is revealed that Bani was a stunt performer in her childhood, trained by Amba. Later, Amba tells Bani to stay in Joypurra till Mishty is found. The town is home to a community of street performers called Bahurupis. Bani and Gokul learn that a local gang called the Blackhole might be behind the kidnapping of Mishty and other young girls in the area. Settling down in Joypurra, Bani becomes a physical education instructor at a local school, and Gokul takes a job at a toll booth. Uma, a local repair service professional, also helps Bani and Gokul. Somesh is a goods delivery person who works closely with Churni. Despite regaining most of her vision, Bani pretends to still be blind so that she can investigate Mishty’s case discreetly. She digs deep for leads on Blackhole while also training in physical combat with Amba’s help.

A distinguished law enforcement officer named Kabir arrives from out of town with his junior, Sanjutka, to help the local cops with the kidnapping cases. Kabir learns that Blackhole uses an interconnected secret tunnel system to smuggle kids out of the country and seals most of the tunnels. Bani discovers that Blackhole has a dangerous, secret order of operations. The gang kidnaps kids, sources dead bodies of other kids, brutally disfigures them, and falsely declares the kidnapped kids dead by switching the identities of the dead and the living ones. Dada Bhai is revealed to be the leader of Blackhole, who commands significant loyalty among the gang members.

Bani learns that Uma, Somesh, and Churni are all part of the Blackhole network and secretly help the gang. Bani is shocked to learn that Amba also made a deal with Blackhole to avoid trouble. During a tense situation involving Amba, Uma, and Bani, unexpected violence occurs, leading to Amba’s death. When Bani reveals the findings of her investigation to Gokul, he grows hopeful that Mishty can be saved. What follows is a series of unexpected events that test Bani’s courage.

Gandhari Ending: Does Bani Rescue Mishty? Is Dada Bhai Dead?

Bani’s journey is defined by struggles till the very end as she hopes to rescue her daughter, Mishty, before she is taken away forever. Bani’s investigation takes a devastating turn after she learns the truth about Churni and the activities at Shishukal Shelter Home. She also finds out that Uma, Churni, and Somesh are all part of the Blackhole gang. Bani reveals all this to Gokul, who approaches Kabir for help. Kabir soon obtains a search warrant for Shishukal and investigates, but finds no clues or incriminating evidence. Kabir’s team finds no tunnels or backdoors within the shelter home that could be used to smuggle kids. Meanwhile, Bani sits alone, thinking about how everything is connected.

She remembers seeing makeup colors at Shishukal and concludes that they will most likely be used to hide the faces of the Kidnapped kids. Bani also makes another clever discovery, which proves critical. She realizes that the upcoming night is the scheduled time for the Chaumukhi Devi puja, a religious gathering where the Bahurupis will dance in colorful attire and makeup. During the gathering, Bani disguises herself as a Bahurupi performer and soon realizes that the Blackhole members, including Churni and Somesh, have also done the same. Churni, Somesh, and the rest of their gang carry the kidnapped children away from the crowd, using their disguises. The religious procession reaches Dakkhinpura beach, where the kidnappers move the kids secretly.

Bani then finds a secret tunnel entry near the beach and follows it. She exits from another place and finds a gang member waiting for her. Bani fights him off, only to spot Somesh and Churni. Using her skills, Bani defends herself and violently kills both Somesh and Churni. She then races ahead, hoping to get to Mishty before it is too late. However, what she finds next shocks her. Gokul shows up, blocking her path, and reveals that he used to work for the Blackhole. A flashback reveals that he regretted being part of the gang for ethical reasons and had saved Bani from being kidnapped years earlier. Bani and Gokul eventually fell in love and got married, but she never knew that he was part of Blackhole.

In the present, seeing Gokul reveal the truth shocks Bani. Gokul also tells her that he accepted a deal from Dada Bhai, the leader of Blackhole. The deal is that Dada Bhai will return Mishty to Gokul if he stops Bani from saving all the other kidnapped kids from being trafficked to the other side of the international border. Overcome by his emotions as a father, Gokul accepts. However, Bani admonishes him for choosing to sacrifice the fates of so many kids in exchange for Mishty. A physical confrontation ensues, and Bani manages to overpower Gokul. The final stage of the rescue mission brings Bani face-to-face with Dada Bhai himself. Dada Bhai boasts that he will spare no child, including Mishty. Bani realizes that she must now fight the menacing Dada Bhai alone if she hopes to be successful.

At first, Dada Bhai inflicts significant damage on Bani. He then opens a wooden box and picks up a terrified Mishty. Mishty cries for her Bani, who is injured and on the ground. Hearing Mishty cry, Bani wakes up and gets ready to face Dada Bhai again. Dada Bhai considers himself a figure like Magrasur, the demon who opposed the goddess Chaumukhi. Symbolically, Bani assumes the moral responsibilities of Chaumukhi to finally end Dada Bhai’s reign of terror. Bani risks everything in the ensuing fight and ultimately kills Dada Bhai by piercing his body with a metal rod. She then embraces Mishty, assuring her that the terrifying ordeal is now over. After several weeks of struggles in a strange town, Bani finally rescues Mishty against overwhelming odds.

What Happens to the Kidnapped Kids? Will Gokul Face Legal Consequences?

Several young girls, including Mishty, are kidnapped by Blackhole in Joypurra, wreaking havoc in the town. While Mishty is rescued, the other kids await their fate. This is when Kabir and his team come in handy. The team steps in to save the other abducted girls before their condition worsens. The children are then given water by Kabir’s team and are saved one by one. Had it not been for Bani’s efforts and her willingness to sacrifice everything for the sake of Mishty, the other kids would have met a tragic fate and been trafficked across the international border. Gokul’s connection to Blackhole is complicated. He left the gang in the past for moral reasons, but now finds himself targeted by Dada Bhai.

Gokul gets emotional about his daughter and decides to sacrifice the lives of all the other kidnapped girls for her sake. After Bani overpowers him, Gokul lies down, bleeding and helpless. Since Bani is the only one who knows Gokul’s truth, Kabir’s team assumes that Gokul was attacked by Blackhole gang members. Gokul gets medical attention and sees Bani walking away with Mishty. It is not revealed if Bani exposes Gokul’s truth and gets him arrested. It is likely that Bani will spare Gokul, since he was blackmailed and manipulated by Dada Bhai. Had it not been for Dada Bhai’s scare tactics, Gokul may not have interfered in Bani’s rescue mission. He will presumably spend the rest of his life haunted by guilt and a sense of isolation as punishment for his crimes.

Will the Blackhole Gang Resurface? Who are the Bahurupis?

The Blackhole gang controls the destinies of several families through its reign of terror. While it is headed by Dada Bhai, the gang has a significant hold over Joypurra, turning the town into its center of power. Though Bani kills Dada Bhai, it may not really signal the end of his gang. Blackhole exists in a world of shadows where deception is the only rule. It has a dangerous modus operandi of kidnapping girls for child sex trafficking. Towards the end, when Kabir springs into action during the Chaumukhi Devi religious gathering, he learns a disturbing truth. He finds out that many local cops are in cahoots with Blackhole and are, in fact, controlled by the gang. In a town where profit appears to be the driving force, it is unlikely that a gang like Blackhole will quit easily.

Despite being leaderless and seeing several members die, Blackhole will likely resurface under new leadership and continue its criminal activities. If the town’s moral conscience is resurrected, that could be the only scenario in which the gang will be forced to quit. The Bahurupis are a community of street performers who essay various roles while dancing in colorful makeup and costumes. They are deeply devoted to the goddess Chaumukhi and serve the locals. The Bahurupis have no connection to the ongoing crimes in Joypurra whatsoever. But Blackhole members often dress up like the Bahurupis, creating the illusion that the Bahurupis are the ones kidnapping kids. The street performers become targets of a ruthless gang, which uses the innocence of the Bahurupis against them.

Will Bani and Gokul Get Back Together? What Do the End Credits Messages Signify?

Bani walks away from Gokul after saving Mishty. While the film leaves the future of Bani and Gokul’s marriage uncertain, it is likely they will not be together. Bani now understands that Gokul has a dark past and may never be truly free of Blackhole’s influence. To keep Mishty safe, Bani will presumably end her marriage with Gokul. On the other hand, Gokul may try to convince Bani that he has learned from his mistakes, but she will probably not be able to forgive him for his crimes. While Gokul might live with guilt for the remainder of his life, Bani will likely be a happier person, helping Mishty build a better life.

Just before the end credits roll, the narrative displays statistics about the kidnappings of children in India. It highlights how dangerous the issue is and how it affects society. The end credit messages also convey how a majority of the kidnapped children are girls. The film explores how a kidnapping not only affects the abducted children but also the mothers who fight against impossible odds to save their kids.
