‘Accused’ centers on Dr. Geetika Sen, a prominent UK-based doctor, and the unexpected problems in her seemingly perfect life with her wife, Meera, as they prepare to adopt a baby. When Geetika faces grave accusations of sexual predation and professional misconduct, her reality turns upside down in a matter of days. In the wake of this allegation, Meera, who is also a doctor, develops deep suspicions and doubts about her wife. As Geetika becomes the target of public scrutiny and social media abuse, her relationship with Meera deteriorates into turmoil. The boundary between innocence and guilt blurs, compelling Meera to relentlessly pursue the truth about Geetika.
Overwhelmed by tension and conflict, the couple is forced to confront difficult decisions that might determine the future of their relationship. With Geetika insisting that she is innocent, the truth appears to be far more complex. In the Netflix film, Geetika Sen’s experiences as a doctor at Chapelstone General Hospital are pivotal to her character arc. SPOILERS AHEAD.
Geetika Sen Faces Professional and Personal Battles While Dealing with Serious Allegations
Geetika Sen is a fictional character who deals with damaging issues that threaten to ruin her future. As a respected gynecologist, she finds it difficult to cope with the sexual misconduct allegations against her. She represents the reality of countless individuals across the world who deal with severe accusations like molestation and abuse of power. She not only faces professional challenges, but also personal issues, as the weight of the accusations starts burdening Meera, her wife. Geetika’s trials and tribulations in the narrative add to its intensity and grounded nature. While Geetika is in a tough spot, she doesn’t appear to be a caricaturish representation of those accused of sexual abuse.

While she maintains that she is not guilty, she must also deal with social media harassment, racism, and attacks against her sexuality. She goes through the grind of allegations, gossip, defamation, and social bias as she wages a relentless battle to maintain her credibility as a responsible medical professional. Geetika’s complex relationship with her wife also adds to the realism of her character. The narrative humanizes her experience and doesn’t treat her as a means for sensationalism or shock value. Her ambitions and the chaos that they bring shape her character arc.
In an interview with Firstpost, Konkona Sen Sharma, who plays Geetika in the movie, spoke about the nature of her character. She said, “The attempt is to portray a complex, nuanced human being with some depth. Everybody has different sexual orientations or many other complexities. We do not have to focus on her coming from a queer community. Of course, that happens to be the fundamental identity of hers. But that’s not her only identity. There are many other identities of hers.” Geetika is a complex character who has several layers and deals with multiple issues simultaneously. Ultimately, she is a deeply human, flawed, and authentic character whose struggles resonate with the viewers.
Chapelstone General Hospital is Intricately Connected to Geetika Sen’s Struggles
Chapelstone General Hospital (CGH) is an imaginary hospital that sheds light on the various issues that workplaces deal with when they are in the middle of handling consequential cases related to sexual abuse. Geetika’s fate is closely tied to how the hospital treats her after the accusation. In the story, CGH takes cognizance of the anonymous emails against Geetika and takes necessary action as the situation demands. The HR department places Geetika on paid leave and ensures that she doesn’t interfere with the investigation. The hospital’s executive board also appoints a retired journalist named Bhargav to neutrally investigate Geetika’s case. In the real world, workplaces often go through a crisis when one of their employees faces serious allegations. Especially in the medical field, ethical principles take precedence.

We see examples of medical professionals being fired over negligence, but Geetika’s case is far more sensitive, as it is connected to the rights of the patients. CGH becomes a battleground where former interns and patients of Geetika try to end her career. Through the happenings at CGH, the film also portrays the puzzling realities of workplace politics and professional egos that play a pivotal role in shaping the lives of several people. According to a 2026 report from WDRB, a southern Indiana doctor was fired by Norton Healthcare and had his state license suspended after multiple patients leveled accusations of sexual misconduct and abuse against him.
There could be several such cases across the world, where hospitals have to take strict actions against those involved in sexual abuse. CGH deals with a similar issue, as it is forced to take harsh steps against Geetika. All in all, CGH represents difficult realities faced by hospitals when they have to deal with the alleged sexual misconduct of one of their own.
