George Covington’s weight loss journey came into the limelight in season 1 episode 5 of TLC’s ‘Dangerously Obese.’ From the moment he appeared on screen, it became clear that he was struggling with decades of emotional weight. He revealed that he had always been overweight and had been put on different types of diets since his childhood. Yet, no matter what he did, his weight continued to rise. When he didn’t feel good enough, he turned to food as his coping mechanism. Over the years, George watched his dreams being crushed as he battled obesity. The rising numbers on the scale didn’t just take a toll on his health, but also prevented him from pursuing relationships. He realized that he soon needed to take the reins of his life, which could only be possible if he underwent weight loss surgery.
George Covington’s Resilience Shone Through as He Met His Pre-Surgery Goals
George Covington often described his struggle with obesity as a mental war. Each day, he faced the challenge of walking 10 feet without a break. Additionally, his growing frustration with not being able to live the life he envisioned and feeling trapped pushed him to reach out to Dr. Charles Procter for help. During the first appointment, the scale flashed a staggering 680 lbs. George’s weight was significantly higher than that of most of Dr. Procter’s patients. So, the doctor set an ambitious goal for him: he needed to lose 75 lbs in three months before he could qualify for surgery. George was skeptical, as none of the diets he had tried were fruitful. However, things changed since he would have a dietitian to guide him. Eventually, he committed to following the diet and maintaining an exercise routine wholeheartedly.

However, when George returned for a second approval appointment, he weighed in at 615 lbs, just 10 lbs short of the required goal. Instead of giving up, Dr. Procter gave him one more chance to lose the last 10 pounds within 14 days and meet him in the operating room. Following that, George worked with a psychologist, confronted his emotional triggers, and pushed through every doubt. By the time of his final virtual weigh-in, he had lost exactly 10 lbs and was approved for surgery. However, during the procedure, Dr. Procter discovered that George had big gallstones. Thankfully, they were removed, and the surgery was completed successfully. Four months later, his hard work paid off as his weight dropped to 556 lbs, which not only helped improve his mobility but also his confidence.

George and Latrice’s connection seemed strong, but it appears that it might not have worked out. In April 2022, he shared photos and videos with another woman, accompanied by a message stating that she was the reason he couldn’t stop smiling. Although it became clear that they were in a relationship, considering the affection between them, he has refrained from sharing further details about his romantic life.
