The third season of Netflix’s ‘Ginny & Georgia’ throws its protagonists into another world of trouble after Georgia is arrested for murdering her neighbour Cynthia’s husband. The trial leads the prosecution to dig into her past, and all sorts of stuff comes out about her, which affects her relationships with the people closest to her. One of those people is Joe, who has been in love with Georgia since she arrived in Wellsbury, but has been keeping a distance from her since she chose to be with Paul. He expressed his feelings to her, but then she got married to the mayor, and Joe took it as a sign to back off. By the end of the third season, however, a drastic change occurs in his and Georgia’s relationship.
The Deterioration of Georgia’s Marriage Brings Her Closer to Joe
When Georgia is arrested and is branded a serial killer, the crowd around her thins pretty quickly. The arrest distances her from the townsfolk, but the accusation of several murders leads even the closest ones to push her away. The most significant impact falls on her marriage. Initially, Paul is supportive of her and does everything in his power to exonerate her. But then, he discovers the strings of lies and crimes she’d been keeping from him, especially after he discovers that she was married twice before, and both of her husbands left the equation under mysterious circumstances.
As Georgia gets lonelier by the minute, Joe realises that she is terribly short on friends, especially after Paul and Zion distance themselves from her. Even though he had decided to stay away from Georgia, Joe decides to be there for her, and his presence has the intended effect. He becomes one of his most vital support systems and helps her stay sane in a time when she is at her lowest, particularly because her children have been taken away from her. Then comes the divorce with Paul, who stops paying the lawyer.
With no one to represent her, Georgia knows that there is no way she is winning the trial, so she decides to run away, knowing that her kids will be taken care of by their dads. At this time, Joe shows up, and when Georgia tells him that this is goodbye, he takes the opportunity to act on his feelings. She, too, has had feelings for him all this while, but she could not act on them because of her relationship with Paul. Now that that’s gone and she will most likely not see Joe again, she gives in and has sex with Joe. While this would have been goodbye, things turn out very differently.
Georgia and Joe Might Become More Than Just Lovers
Georgia was supposed to leave town, but she finds it impossible to be separated from her kids, so she turns herself in and is sent to prison. While Joe is surprised by this, especially because she is all but set to go to prison for life, he decides to remain her friend, no matter what. He visits her in prison, where they have a heart-to-heart about her decision to come back. As he leaves, he makes it clear that this won’t be his last visit, and he will see her again. Fortunately for Georgia, she doesn’t have to stay in prison for long, so her next meeting with Joe happens at her house.
By this time, Joe is pretty confused about Cynthia’s testimony in court, where the blame for her husband’s murder was shifted towards Gil, and he doesn’t know what to make of Georgia, who seems to be surrounded by too many lies. He shows up at her house to find out if she really is a murderer, and she comes clean to him. She confesses to murdering Cynthia’s husband because she thought she would be sparing the poor woman from her misery. Despite this revelation, Joe kisses her, showing that he is ready to look past the things she has done. Generally, this would mean that they would start dating and exploring their future with one another. Georgia believes that she needs to swear off jumping into relationships for a while so that she can focus on being a better person.
He understands this and politely backs off. But then, the next day, Georgia discovers that she is pregnant. While it is not confirmed who the father of her baby is, there is a good chance that it could be Joe. If he is the father, then it could completely rewrite his relationship with Georgia, and they are bound to explore the idea of being together. However, if he is not the father (which means Paul would be it), it could put more strain on their relationship. Even if they get together, they will have a lot of things to sort out, which would either lead them to become so deeply intertwined that they will end up together for good, or it might split them apart so permanently that they will never find a way back to each other.
