Hallmark’s ‘When Calls the Heart’ brings a delightfully engaging prairie romance show populated with a charming group of characters that drive the narrative forward. Season 12 builds upon this through the addition of a number of riveting characters whose storylines intricately interconnect with all-time favorite town residents. Georgie McGill, who makes her first appearance in episode 6, titled ‘When Autumn Leaves Begin to Fall,’ fulfills this role particularly well as she crosses paths with Bill Avery, an apparent old friend. Consequently, intrigue naturally surrounds the new face as she arrives in Hope Valley.
Georgie McGill Shares a Fascinating Past With Bill
Georgie McGill finds herself in Hope Valley’s Mountie station due to Bill Avery’s investigation into a gold coin that he hopes will help him solve the ever-elusive Great Rocky Mountain Train Robbery of 1907. After Nathan runs the successful undercover operation revolving around Toddy Davis, the department is compelled to send over a forensics expert to move the investigation along. Thus, Georgie enters—or rather, re-enters—Bill’s life. As it turns out, the forensics expert and ex-mountie-turned-judge had previously known each other during their years of training in their youth. Therefore, they easily partner up with each other to commence the next phase of the investigation, which includes a trip to the Granville prison and an interrogation with Sonny Garrison.
While the interrogation goes well, Bill and Georgie’s trip back to Hope Valley proves to be much more intriguing. Apparently, the duo’s dynamic extended well beyond the platonic, even during their early friendship. However, they kept their respective feelings hidden from one another. Eventually, Bill became involved with Nora, agreeing to marry her and raise her child as his own. Inevitably, this put Bill and Georgie on their own paths until they eventually fazed out of each other’s lives. Yet, once they realized that their feelings weren’t as unrequited, they couldn’t help but regret having lost their chance at romance.
Even though both Bill and Georgie are reluctant to visit those feelings again, their unexpected reunion naturally rekindles the deep connection both of them shared, steeping their interactions with a flirtatious air. As such, if their partnership continues for the investigation into the gold coin, there’s always a possibility that they might fall back into each other’s orbit in a more permanent way. Thus, it’s always possible that this investigation might bring them to unexpected roads!
Melissa Gilbert Guest Stars as Georgie in When Calls the Heart
Melissa Gilbert portrays the role of Georgie McGill in ‘When Calls the Heart.’ The actress is reportedly only appearing as a guest star in this season or a two-story arc that will expectedly revolve significantly around Bill. Gilbert’s addition to the show’s growing family marks a reunion between her and executive producer Michael Landon Jr. She previously starred in another beloved prairie romance show from 1974, ‘Little House on the Prairie,’ alongside Landon’s father, Michael Landon. As such, Georgie’s character brings an unexpectedly pleasant blast from the past.
Outside of these family dramas, Gilbert has also appeared on shows like ‘Sweet Justice,’ a legal drama from the mid-1990s, the comedy show ‘Stand by Your Man,’ and the crime mystery show ‘Secrets and Lies.’ Similarly, she has various movies on her discography, ranging from the quirky family drama film ‘When We Last Spoke,’ to the festive ‘Hometown Christmas,’ and more. Furthermore, she has also collaborated with Hallmark prior to her appearance on ‘When Calls the Heart’ with the feel-good rom-com ‘The Christmas Pageant.’ As such, Gilbert’s easy charm and seamless screen presence make her the perfect addition to the show!
