Ginny’s love life goes through many twists and turns in the third season of Netflix’s ‘Ginny & Georgia.’ With her mother getting arrested for the murder that she is guilty of, Ginny starts to feel the pressure of the new reality sink in as Georgia’s chances of walking away a free woman decrease by the minute. At the same time, she is still struggling with her feelings for Marcus, who has his own baggage to deal with. Amidst all this, she meets another boy, named Wolfe, who is not nearly as traumatised as her or Marcus. He comes in as a breath of fresh air, but Ginny’s rocky family situation makes it impossible to find the love she is looking for. SPOILERS AHEAD.
Ginny’s Relationship With Wolfe is on Uncertain Terms
Ginny meets Wolfe at her poetry class, and while she initially doesn’t like the idea of going out with him, she eventually accepts his offer of a date when life at home becomes too much to bear. Because he knows nothing about her, especially her mother, who is on trial for murder, it is much easier for her to be around him. They have a lot of fun together, and he helps her get her mind off things. She tries to keep her real life a secret, but the media frenzy around the trial takes away that anonymity. Fortunately, Wolfe is not driven away by this, and he and Ginny continue to see each other. Being forced away from her mother leads Ginny to lash out at her father by staying out late with Wolfe and having sex with him.
While Wolfe is a good guy and she has a great time with him every time they go out, things are not as serious. It is all good fun, but this vibe is completely shaken off when she realises she is pregnant. Because Wolfe is the only guy she has been with recently, she knows it is his baby. Though she knows she doesn’t want the baby, she shares the news of her pregnancy with Wolfe, and he is caught off guard and promptly disappears. By the time he comes back, Ginny has already had the abortion, and she does not like the way he handled the news. He apologises for his behaviour but is also sensitive enough to know that she needs her space and is not obligated to forgive him for running away when she needed him the most.
Even though Ginny makes it clear that she doesn’t want to see him again, Wolfe still shows up at her graduation, where she reads the poem that won her an award. She is surprised but also happy to see him there, and later, he makes it clear that while they are not dating anymore, he still wants to be her friend and will not simply disappear from her life. This shows that Wolfe will be around, but not necessarily in a romantic capacity. Considering that she still has feelings for Marcus, which Wolfe is completely aware of, there is a chance that their relationship might stay platonic, and that could be great for both of them, especially Ginny.
Marcus’ Mental Health Struggles Prevent His Reunion With Ginny
While Ginny has dated a couple of other guys for three seasons, there is only one that she has truly been in love with: Marcus. They bond over the darkest parts of themselves that they don’t feel they can share with anyone else. But while Ginny seeks help and gets better, Marcus’ struggle worsens even after he tries to get help for his problems. He has depression, and it leads him to break things off with Ginny because he doesn’t think he is mentally healthy enough to take care of either of them. This issue continues with the third season, where things seem to be going comparatively well for him initially.
Despite Ginny’s brief affair with Wolfe, she and Marcus continue to push and pull at each other. As things get worse with Georgia, Marcus seems like the only person who truly understands Ginny, and while they keep things platonic between each other, there are clear declarations of love, and they even kiss a couple of times. However, by the end of the season, Marcus is in desperate need of rehab as his alcohol problem worsens and destroys not just his relationships but also his career and education. Things are so bad on the school front that he is not able to graduate, which pulls him down even further.
In the end, it is clear that Marcus and Ginny still have and will always have feelings for one another, but this is not the time for them to get together. Over the summer, Ginny plans to go to Korea with her father, which will give her space from Wellsbury and her mother and help her figure things out by herself. Meanwhile, Marcus needs to take care of himself, and Ellen checks him into rehab. With both of them at different points in their lives and on different ends of the world for a whole summer, their journeys are in entirely different directions. However, with their love for each other, there is still hope that they will eventually find their way back to one another, no matter how long it takes to get there.
