Netflix’s ‘Love is Blind: Italy’ brings together individuals who might never have crossed paths in everyday life. The show’s diverse cast creates space for participants to explore connections beyond their usual circles, and season 1 was no exception. Giorgia and Giovanni Calvario opened up to each other with genuine vulnerability and pushed past their hesitations. They challenged one another in different ways, and when faced with difficult choices, both confronted them head-on. Their mutual respect for this courage strengthened their bond and deepened their relationship.
Giorgia and Giovanni’s Disconnect Kept Mounting Over Time
Giorgia and Giovanni Calvario felt a unique connection from the moment they began speaking in the pods. Although Giovanni was fully committed to the experiment and also formed a connection with Gregana, something about Giorgia continually drew him back. When he once gave Gregana a small gift, Giorgia questioned whether he was simply using the same charm on everyone and whether his intentions with her were genuine. Giovanni reassured her that his feelings were honest and that what they were building was real and said that he just needed a little more time. As their conversations went further, the two pushed each other with challenging questions.
Eventually, Giovanni admitted to Gregana that his bond with Giorgia was stronger because she pushed him to grow, even during disagreements. His subsequent proposal to Giorgia seemed to come from the heart, and seeing each other for the first time left them both visibly smitten. On their first night away together, Giovanni chose not to rush physical intimacy and slept on the couch, believing they should take things slowly. Giorgia supported this, but later, seeing him speak with Gregana again made her question whether he had fully severed that connection. Their problems then only continued to escalate. Right after the honeymoon, Giovanni returned to Rome for work while Giorgia went back to Milan, where they were meant to begin living together.
She felt their intimacy fading, though his surprise visit a day before he was meant to arrive still made her happy. However, every conversation seemed to slip into an argument. Giovanni dreamed of moving to the countryside and building a life there. Giorgia said she was willing to do so if it made her life better, but she could not leave her full-time job. What ensued were even more arguments, with her believing he was trying to find a flaw in everything she said or did, driving her to question why he stayed in the relationship. He, in turn, felt she wasn’t supportive enough. During a visit to Rome to meet his friends, another argument erupted, and after some name-calling and both of them losing their composure, she chose to spend the night in a hotel. She finally ended things between them the next morning and said that she was very unhappy with how she had been treated.
Giorgia and Giovanni Are Seeing Other People
Between Giovanni and Giorgia, there always seemed to be some tension simmering beneath the surface. Even during moments when they tried to move forward, they were rarely on the same page. Almost every important conversation they attempted to have eventually spiraled into an argument, leaving both feeling unheard and increasingly frustrated. Over time, it became evident that they wanted very different things out of life, and neither could fully bend in the direction the other hoped for. Giorgia often felt that Giovanni minimized her feelings and belittled her choices. She sensed that he didn’t take her ambitions or her career seriously, and she believed he expected her to make the larger compromises in their relationship.
His dream of moving to the countryside and starting a quieter life was something she tried to embrace, but she also felt that he dismissed her attempts to meet him halfway. Giovanni, on the other hand, felt she wasn’t supportive enough of his goals. The two found themselves stuck in a cycle where both felt misunderstood. The biggest shock, however, came when it was revealed that Giovanni had texted Federica almost immediately after getting his phone back. He even went to dinner with her two days after things ended with Giorgia. The timing deeply hurt Giorgia, who felt it confirmed her fear that Giovanni had not been fully committed to the future they were trying to build together. To her, it seemed like he had emotionally checked out long before the relationship officially ended.
Giorgia said she felt Giovanni was barely making any effort in the relationship, while Giovanni claimed he felt shut out of her life altogether, noting that she had never introduced him to her friends or family. He added that Giorgia had once said she could picture a countryside life like his, but he felt she never truly embraced it in reality. Giovanni defended going out with Federica and said he had a clear conscience because they had already broken up by then. Giorgia, however, described him as someone who only prioritized himself and said she was relieved to end the relationship once her boundaries were crossed. She also shared that she is now dating someone new, whom she described as a wonderful father. Giovanni confirmed he is seeing someone as well, though he admitted it remains uncertain where that relationship will lead.
