While the experiment emphasizes committed pairings, the show also reveals that unexpected connections can develop beyond the main matches. In season 1, Giovanni Calvario became engaged to Giorgia after choosing her in the pods. However, viewers later noticed his renewed connection with Federica Viola Stella. This raised some eyebrows, but neither shied away from being seen together and even spoke out about what was brewing between them.
Giovanni and Federica Had Been Talking While He Was With Giorgia
Giovanni Calvario and Federica Viola Stella first crossed paths during the pod phase, though their interaction was brief. Their early exchange centered on energy and general outlook, and although brief, it left both with the sense that an easy rapport existed between them. Despite that initial spark, Giovanni ultimately chose to pursue Giorgia more seriously. He proposed to her in the pods, became engaged, and continued the experiment as intended, including traveling with her to Morocco for the cast retreat. However, Giovanni’s relationship with Giorgia did not progress smoothly. Tensions emerged, and the connection he expected to grow instead began to unravel.
After the retreat, once Giovanni regained access to his phone, he reached out to Federica. At the time, he was still technically with Giorgia, and the communication with Federica was kept private. Their conversations continued quietly, without involving others from the cast. When Giovanni’s relationship with Giorgia eventually ended, he and Federica decided to meet in person for the first time. Giovanni later explained that he felt Federica was more aligned with him emotionally and mentally, and he wanted to explore what they had not pursued earlier. He also acknowledged that during the pods, he had held back due to their age difference, but continued conversations made it clear there was potential worth examining.
They met for dinner, spent time talking, and shared a relaxed, comfortable interaction that included holding hands. The following day, when cast members and couples gathered together, Giovanni and Federica arrived together. Federica later approached Giorgia directly, explaining that she and Giovanni had been in contact and that they had met the night before. She emphasized transparency, stating that she did not want Giorgia to hear it from anyone else and clarifying that their previous communication had been conversational before they met in person.
Giovanni and Federica Are Still in Touch With One Another
Although Giovanni and Federica appeared to be cautiously exploring what might exist between them, their storyline was not prominently followed after their initial date. At the reunion, it became clear that Federica and Giovanni were not in a committed relationship and were not pursuing anything romantic. When Giovanni claimed that he had not kissed Federica, she reacted angrily and accused him of blatantly lying. Federica also shared that she was dating someone new. Both made it clear that there was no romantic involvement between them. Any interaction they had appeared to be limited to a single dinner and their joint appearance at the party, with no continuation afterward. By the time of the reunion, whatever curiosity or speculation existed had ended, and they were clearly no longer connected in any romantic way.
