The tenth episode of ‘Grosse Pointe Garden Society‘ focuses on Birdie’s growing unease about Ford and navigating their complex relationship moving forward. Titled ‘Seasons,’ the episode highlights how Birdie has been avoiding one problem while giving rise to many others. However, the situation is not likely to resolve itself anytime soon, given what is at stake – her motherhood. In the last episode, we saw Alice finally gain the upper hand over Patty after months of torture. With her relationship with Doug at a healthy spot, it allows Alice to tighten the screw on her mother-in-law and exact demands that would previously have been unimagined. However, their cat-and-mouse game takes a new turn in episode 10 as Alice creatively expands her family. SPOILERS AHEAD.
Alice Finds an Unexpected Babysitter For Her New Dog
One month in the future, Birdie arrives in her black Cadillac for the Monaco Under the Stars event organized by the Grosse Pointe Garden Society. She is surprised to see Misty chauffeuring the guest cars. She heads inside, slightly worried about Misty’s presence. Subsequently, we return to the present day, where Birdie is meeting Misty at the latter’s bar workplace. Misty tells Birdie that Ford got into college on a scholarship, meaning he no longer needs Birdie’s money. The bartender tells Birdie to stay away from her family because she is only complicating matters at home, including Ford questioning his adoptive heritage. Worried about Doug’s new gaming hobby, Alice gets a new dog named Gail to focus their efforts on taking care of a living being for a while.
Catherine breaks the news to her children that their grandparents are getting divorced. To her surprise, her mom and dad want to hire her as a real estate agent to sell her childhood home. Meanwhile, Melissa has an argument with Connor about her children. Because they are sick, Connor wants them to stay at Brett’s place because he does not want to get sick. Melissa accepts the deal but stays angry at him for his insensitivity. The main gang meets up at the GPGS to discuss their recent issues. Stressed about selling her childhood home, Catherine is unimpressed by the food menu at the garden for an upcoming event. After their talk, Alice invites Patty to her home under the impression that the family has expanded. As Patty has been waiting for news of a grandchild, she arrives, excited out of her mind. However, it is a blackmail plot by Alice to get Patty to babysit Gail.
Birdie Makes a Startling Discovery at the Hospital
In the meantime, Catherine begins the process of selling the old house. Although numerous clients show interest in buying the place, Catherine sends them away systematically because they all have plans to drastically change the house’s personality. Later, she breaks the news to her parents nonchalantly, blaming them for not being interested enough. Connor and Melissa fight after the latter expresses her desire to stay at Brett’s place while her kids are with him. Although Connor does not want her to go, Melissa states that her duty as a parent is to take care of her kids when they are sick and not abandon them. Across town, Birdie tracks down Ford to hand him an old baseball mitt from his dad. She hopes it will change his mind, but he remains angry with her. She subsequently loses consciousness, prompting Ford to call an ambulance.
Brett and Melissa start falling back into their old rhythm as they take care of their kids through the sickness. Before long, Brett finds himself cuddling with Melissa on his living room couch. While they have a good time, things get unbearable for Patty, who has to devote her time 24/7 to taking care of Gail. Alice even gets Patty a logbook to write down everything Gail does during the day. We jump over to Birdie, who wakes up at the hospital after her blackout incident. Her ex-husband stops by with a bouquet of flowers, telling her that he came all the way from London, England, to see if she is okay. Also, he is her emergency contact. When the doctor steps in, Birdie realizes that her diagnosis is far more severe than expected – she is pregnant. A month in the future, she runs into Misty at the toilet during the GPGS event, who deduces that she is pregnant and Joel is the dad.
Catherine Struggles to Accept Her Parents’ Divorce
After searching high and low, Catherine manages to find the perfect buyer, a woman who desires to keep the house just as it is without changing a single thing. Catherine announces the sale to her mom and dad, who are ecstatic at the money that’s going to come in as a result of the sale. However, they recognize that the buyer’s parents are actually commercial developers in the region, meaning the house will be torn down once the transaction is complete. The news distresses Catherine. Meanwhile, Alice returns home to find a note from her landlord asking to get rid of her new dog. As per their lease requirements, they are not allowed to own or keep pets within the premises. However, Alice is confused about how the landlord learned about the dog’s presence in the first place, especially considering how she managed to keep Molly a secret for years. She suspects Patty had something to do with it.
When Alice confronts Patty about her alleged involvement, the woman leaves the house complaining about her treatment over the last few days. Patty states that she will never have a grandchild as long as Alice has a dog in her life, which rings alarm bells in the latter’s mind. Elsewhere, things get spicy between Melissa and Brett as she stumbles into the bathroom to break the news that the fever is gone, not knowing that he is mid-shower and naked. When he steps out, they talk about how they have felt comfortable with each other recently, as if the old days were back. Caught in the moment, they kiss over the kitchen countertop before a phone call from Connor abruptly ends their tryst. Catherine finally confronts her dad about the divorce, which is why she is wound up over the house sale. He consoles her just like in her childhood, while her mom does the same.
Alice Reopens Molly’s Death While Birdie Confronts Misty
Alice and Doug are left with a difficult decision as their landlord jacks up their rent because of Gail. With no options remaining, they have to send the dog back to the rescue shelter where Alice got it. She is also surprised to learn that Patty beat Doug at his shooting game even though she is no gamer. Things get even more interesting as Alice discovers a bullet in the jewelry box, hinting that Patty must have left it behind. She is increasingly convinced that Patty had something to do with Molly’s death. She shares her theory with the main group at the GPGS during their next session. Although they think she is presuming too much, they tell her it is worth exploring. Because Alice still has the gun and bullet, Catherine explains that she can contact Tucker’s FBI friends to help find a link between the gun and Patty.
We see a montage of events swim by as Doug and Alice prepare to send Gail back where it came from. Connor sits down with his PI pal, who tells him he has found some dirt on Brett. Although excited initially, his exuberance dies away when he learns it involves his wife and Brett growing closer. Alice hands over the gun in a plastic bag to Catherine, showing that she is willing to go through with the plan to explore Molly’s death again. In the meantime, Birdie gets to talk to Ford about their recent issues after he shows up at her place. She lies about her health while telling him more about his biological father, who he is surprised to learn was a “loser.” Before leaving, Ford tells her that Misty has kicked Joel out of the house. One month later, Birdie enters the passenger seat of the Cadillac while Misty gets ready to drive. The latter locks the car doors as Birdie prepares to talk about something.
