Grosse Pointe Garden Society Episode 11 Recap: Monaco Under the Stars

After tiptoeing around the edges of the central mystery for a while, ‘Grosse Pointe Garden Society’ episode 11, titled ‘Monaco Under the Stars,’ finally addresses some of our biggest questions while also leaving much to be discussed about where things go from here. In the previous episode, we saw Alice restart her investigation into Molly’s death after realizing that Patty, her mother-in-law, may have something to do with it. She hands the evidence over to Catherine, who promises to tap up Tucker’s contacts at the FBI to find out if there is any link between the bullet, dog, and Patty. Things also took a turn for Birdie, who learned that she is pregnant and the father is more than likely Joel. It complicates matters for her, Ford, and Misty, especially with the prospect of a second child on the horizon. SPOILERS AHEAD.

The Gala Sets Things Into Motion

The day of the gala is finally here as Patty and Keith head out for a bout of shopping before the party gets underway. Although she is mad about Marilyn’s seating arrangements, she turns her attention to buying a pair of green sneakers. In the meantime, Catherine takes care of the last preparations for the party as Alice, Birdie, and Brett join her. Later, Birdie has her gynecology exam with Dr. Evans and her ex-husband in the room. When he leaves, she shares her worries about having a second baby with Dr. Evans, who tells her that she can’t help her with everything. As Catherine and Tucker get dressed for the party, the latter realizes that the DNA test from Alice’s gun is finally here. Catherine wants to know the answer, but her husband reminds her that there is no going back once the truth is out.

We skip over to the confrontation between Connor and Brett from an earlier episode, where the former takes a pickaxe in his hands. The standoff is defused when a new customer enters the door, and Brett has to send her away. Subsequently, Connor leaves after stating that he will take custody of Brett’s children if he continues to sabotage and humiliate him. Hours later, the gala kicks into gear as Patty is enthralled to find out that Keith has managed to get them a better seat than the one allocated by Marilyn previously. Brett is flagged down by Melissa, who wants to know his true feelings following the kiss they shared in the previous episode. Connor stops by to interrupt their exchange, placing a firm fist against Brett’s chest as a reminder to keep his distance from his wife.

Brett Makes His Choice With Melissa

While playing a round at the roulette table, Birdie tells her ex-husband that she feels like she is sixteen again because of the pregnancy. He tells her it is her chance to get things right. Brett runs into Tucker at the bar, who saw Connor put his hands on him earlier. Tucker states that if someone threatened him like Connor, he would fight back in his own way. It gives Brett something to think about as Alice arrives to ask him if he’s seen Doug. Brett learns that Doug did not accompany Alice to the party. In the women’s toilet, Melissa and another gala attendee, Amanda Mills, talk about Patty’s weird obsession with winning the prize quilt. She tells Melissa that Patty is saving it for her imaginary grandchild, which Alice refuses to give her despite her best efforts.

After being tasked with finding a blow pop for Marilyn, Donna stumbles on the fight between Brett and Doug inside the main hall of the garden club. Brett washes the blood off his hands and face, getting angrier by the second because of Connor’s words and Tucker’s advice. He heads towards Melissa and takes her for a dance while Connor can only watch in envy. As they sashay around the room, Brett tells Melissa he is showing her how he feels. Patty is stunned when she runs into Skip Harding at the party, the man she had an affair with, as per Keith’s story from an earlier episode. She is embarrassed to be seen by him but also flattered when he offers her the chance to come back to the station. Her dreams are shattered when she realizes he never knew she was a weather girl. She is even more miffed when she sees his young, attractive wife, Brianna, by his side.

Alice Learns the Truth Behind Molly’s Murder

Birdie and Catherine console Alice together while they clean up the mess left behind by Brett and Doug’s fight. When Tucker stops by the place, the truth about the bullet DNA test spills out, causing Alice to jump up in anticipation of what is in the envelope. Catherine hesitates to tell her the answer because of how she might react. As the auctions begin, Brett comes over to the table and apologizes to Alice for his earlier behavior. However, she is too out of it to react to his words. Patty and Amanda Mills get embroiled in an auction battle when the famed Grosse Pointe quilt is brought up as the next artifact on sale. After Patty comes out on top, Alice looks at her mother-in-law with vehemence from a distance. She then turns to Brett and states the inevitable: “That b***** killed my dog.”

We jump to two scenes we saw in earlier episodes. The first is Marilyn desperately asking for her car to arrive as she sees the motion alert on her phone. The second is Birdie getting into the black Cadillac with Misty in the driving seat. The latter locks the doors and windows and prepares to drive the car straight into a wall until Birdie admits she does not deserve to have another child. After promising to not be a mother, Birdie is let go by Misty. The latter drives the car to the party, where Marilyn is relieved to see it returned. However, it is not her car as per Misty. On their way home, Connor and Melissa have an argument about their relationship and how she humiliated him. He also reveals that he knows about her kiss with Brett because he put a PI on him. He tells Melissa that he will be staying at a hotel moving forward until Melissa makes her choice between him and Brett.

The Murder Victim’s Identity Comes to the Fore

With the party over, Alice vents about Patty killing her dog to the others. They tell her that she should try doing something of an equivalent nature to her. After exchanging ideas for a while, Alice decides that they should destroy what is most precious to Patty: her quilt. Meanwhile, Keith and Patty return home and discuss how Alice has played Doug. He also brings up the topic of Skip Harding, which makes her bristle slightly. At the garden shed, the group gets excited about the different ways they can destroy the quilt, but Alice wants Patty to be here to see it. They start texting Patty, hoping it will bring her to them. However, her phone is down in the kitchen while she gets ready for bed with Keith. Before slipping under the covers, they talk about Skip and how she values Keith far more than anything else.

The group finds themselves waiting around aimlessly as Patty continues to be a no-show. Catherine suggests going home, but they are all too fired up to leave without doing anything. Alice picks up a machete to destroy the quilt, which is when Keith shows up. He berates Alice for going too far with her hatred of Patty when his wife has done nothing but bring her into the fold. Alice tells him she killed his dog, which sounds ludicrous to him. Determined to make her point, Alice and Birdie drop the quilt into the shredder as Keith tries to stop them. They move away as he desperately tries to extract it from the machine. He manages to yank it away at the last moment, only to impale himself on the sharp tools lined up behind him. Thus, we finally know the identity of the murder victim in ‘Grosse Pointe Garden Society.’
