When Tahereh Ghassemi vanished from her home in April 2015, police focused on several close acquaintances as potential suspects. Among them was her ex-husband, Hamid Ghassemi, who was eventually convicted of orchestrating her murder by hiring three men. During the investigation, authorities also delved into Hamid’s personal life and discovered he had been romantically involved with a coworker named Heather Rangeley. In NBC’s ‘Dateline: The Ultimate Betrayal,’ Heather shared insights about her relationship with Hamid and gave her perspective on his involvement in the murder scheme.
Heather Rangeley Was Allegedly Asked to Pretend to be a Housekeeper
Hamid Ghassemi immigrated to the US from Iran in 1995. At the time, he was already married to Tahereh Ghassemi, but due to visa complications and other issues, she was unable to accompany him. Although the original plan was for Hamid to eventually bring her to the US, he appeared hesitant to follow through. It wasn’t until 2005, thanks to efforts made by their son, Hamed, that Tahereh was finally able to join him. Upon her arrival, she discovered that Hamid had been dishonest about many aspects of his life. He had married someone else in the US, and after that relationship ended, he began dating a woman named Heather Rangeley.
Heather and Hamid met through work and quickly developed a close relationship. They eventually moved in together. According to Heather, she was always aware that Hamid had a wife back in Iran and mentioned that Tahereh would call about once a month. There was a mutual understanding that their relationship needed to remain secret. He had allegedly even instructed Heather to pretend to be his housekeeper if she ever answered the phone when Tahereh called, and she went along with it. At the time, she said, it didn’t seem like a significant issue, and she didn’t pay much attention to the dynamics within Hamid’s family.
Heather Rangeley Likely Works in Legal Services Today
Heather Rangeley spoke publicly in September 2015, around the time Hamed Ghassemi was arrested in Iran. By then, the investigation into Tahereh’s murder was already in progress, and Hamid had been accused of orchestrating the crime. Heather explained that Hamed was being held on accusations of converting to Christianity, which had caused great concern among those close to him. She expressed gratitude to the community for their prayers and shared her hope that he would be safely brought home soon.
Heather has maintained a low profile in the years following the arrest and conviction related to Tahereh’s murder case. She is believed to be working as a paralegal at the Joel M. Freeman Law Firm and residing in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. A private and modest individual, she appears to prefer staying out of the public spotlight, and it is an understandable choice given the circumstances surrounding the case.
