In the episode titled ‘Red Handed’ of ABC’s ’20/20,’ the primary focus is on the horrific 2019 murder of Linda Collins-Smith, the former Arkansas State Senator. Although the tragedy rocked the entire community to its core, her children, Heather Tate Williams and Butch Smith, were among the most affected by it. Both of them followed the investigation closely and breathed a sigh of relief when the perpetrator, Rebecca “Becky” O’Donnell, was brought to justice. Heather and Butch also feature in the documentary, recounting their experience and how it affected their lives.
Heather Tate Williams’ Life Revolves Around Her Family
Still reeling from the loss of her mother, Heather Tate Williams has chosen to stay away from the spotlight. She is married to John Williams, with whom she shares a son named Reese. Reportedly residing in Bryant, Arkansas, she manages to devote enough time to her family as well as herself. Being an adventurous soul, she not only enjoys exploring new places with her husband and son, but also likes to indulge in adventure sports. The Williamses also own a furry little friend whom they consider part of the family. For Christmas 2024, she decorated her house with lights, a beautifully adorned Christmas tree, and religious miniatures. While keeping her mother’s memories alive in her heart, the devoted wife and doting mother continues to share a close-knit bond with her brother, Butch Smith.
Butch Smith is a Devoted Father and Supportive Partner
Though Butch Smith can never truly get over the tragic loss of his mother, he has since strived to move forward in life, believing it is what his beloved mother would’ve wanted him to do. Having said that, he celebrates and honors her by keeping her values alive, sharing her stories, and the impact she had on his life every chance he gets. Back in 2019, he was still married to Jennifer McKenzie, but their relationship had changed since then. The two ended their marriage sometime later and decided to go their separate ways. However, it is likely that they always come together for their sons, Jackson and Brayden, whom they welcomed during their time as a married couple.
In 2025, Butch opened his heart and found love again with Morganne Dame. He entered into a healthy and loving relationship with the Sedgwick, Arkansas native on January 15, 2025. One thing led to another, and it only took them a few months to determine they were ready to commit to a life together. On June 29, Butch popped the question to the love of his life in a very adorable manner. In a traditional fashion, he got down on one knee with a ring as a pleasantly surprised Morganne beamed with joy, while their loved ones cheered them on with bright smiles. Adding another wholesome touch to the special moment, he also got her a cake that featured a picture of a cozy home and a heartfelt message: “Morganne, Will you make this house a home with me?” Of course, she said “Yes!” As of writing, they are likely in the middle of settling into their new life as an engaged couple in their home in Pocahontas, Arkansas.
On the professional front, the father of two is a veteran who served as an armed forces officer for a while. In January, he was working for an ISP (Internet Service Provider) and probably continues to work there even today. Though Butch retired from the Army long ago, he holds great pride in that chapter of his life and often revisits those memories by sharing snippets from the time on his social media account. On his birthday in November 2021, he even urged people to donate to the Wounded Warrior Project, a nonprofit organization that works towards empowering and aiding injured service members, among other assistance. In his downtime, he also enjoys fishing or simply spending quality time with his people. Thus, we can say that Butch is currently leading a fulfilling life surrounded by the love and care of Morganne, his kids, family, and friends.
