In the fiery culinary competition of Fox’s ‘Hell’s Kitchen,’ aspiring chefs face intense challenges and high-pressure dinner services for the chance to prove that they have what it takes to win. Divided into Red and Blue Teams, the contestants must impress Gordon Ramsay to move forward. Season 25 makes history by bringing together chefs aged 25 and under, with the premiere ending on a cliffhanger. In episode 2, titled ‘A Tale of Two Kitchens,’ Valentin and Sandra face the judge to learn about something that happens for the first time in the show’s history.
Early Menu Training Gives Way to a Fierce Appetizer Challenge For the Red Team
As the episode kicks off where it left off, Gordon announces that, for the first time in the show’s history, the judge is personally giving Valentin and Sandra their menu books early. Although the other contestants are initially surprised, they quickly compose themselves upon receiving the menu books. Without further ado, Gordon adds that these should be just like their Bibles since he wants to set them up for success. Once the Red and the Blue Teams return to their living quarters, Haley notes that the boys are diligently going through the menu books, unlike the ladies. Early the next morning, Sous Chefs James and Michelle gather the contestants in their respective kitchens for an intense menu training session.

Within a short time, James and Michelle train the contestants on how to make lobster risotto, scallops, Wellington, lamb, and carbonara for the restaurant. They are eventually joined by Gordon, who reveals two unique Punishment Passes for this season, before asking the Blue Team to return to their dorms. He also asks the Red Team to stay behind for a meeting. Upon Blue Team’s departure, Gordon reveals that for their current individual challenge, there will be three rapid rounds of cooking to prepare Hell’s Kitchen appetizers. In round one, the first six chefs to earn his approval on their scallops will advance to the next round. As the first round commences, the Red Team rushes to prepare their scallops.
Mya becomes the first competitor to finish her preparation and advance to the second round. As Gordon sends Georgiana’s dish back to add more raisins, Nadia also advances to the next step. She is shortly followed by Georgiana, Sandra, Joy, and Jeyda. In round two, the first three among these six chefs must execute a perfect carbonara to advance to the next round. Joy is initially pleased because she has a strong background in French technique and Mediterranean flavors, but she doesn’t like making carbonara. It isn’t long before she starts feeling anxious when she notices that her noodles are curdling. On the other hand, Sandra faces a predicament: she cannot eat the carbonara because she is allergic to eggs, which forces her to seek Joy’s help.
Mya Secures the Punishment Pass Before the Blue Team Takes on the Challenge
When Joy finally tastes Sandra’s dish, she points out that the preparation is slightly salty. Nadia eventually becomes the first person to advance to the third round. Following that, she notes that she has been overlooked multiple times in her life, but this win is making her feel confident. Shortly after, Georgiana moves on to the next round, but Gordon sends Mya’s preparation back because the fat in her dish hasn’t been rendered properly. The judge also sends Sandra’s carbonara back, noting that it is quite salty. With just one spot remaining to move forward into the final round, Mya once again presents her dish to Gordon. Fortunately, she manages to impress the judge and secure the final spot.

For the third round, the first chef to bring Gordon perfectly cooked lobster and risotto will win the coveted Punishment Pass. Fortunately, Mya’s best efforts pay off when she manages to present her dish first and win the Punishment Pass. In her confessional, she states that she will be the season’s winner and is confident. It is now time for the Blue Team to compete against each other to win the Punishment Pass, and the three rapid rounds will follow the same format as the Red Team’s challenge. Once the first round commences, Mike reveals that he has watched all seasons of ‘Hell’s Kitchen’ and has also seen the preparation of scallops multiple times.
It isn’t long before Gabe, Jonny G., Valentin, Mike, Miles, and Miguel present their dishes before Gordon and earn their place in the second round. In this round, only the first three competitors who prepare the perfect carbonara will advance to the final round. Miles becomes the first chef to advance to the third round, and Mike follows shortly after. Although Miguel serves his dish to Gordon, the judge points out that it is undercooked and asks him to prepare it again. It isn’t long before Jonny G. finishes his carbonara and secures his spot in the third round. In the final round, Jonny G., Mike, and Miles manage to complete their lobster and risotto one by one, but Gordon sends all their dishes back because the proteins are undercooked.
Mike Wins the Punishment Pass Before the Teams Face the First Dinner Service
Since Gordon sends the dishes of Jonny G., Mike, and Miles back into the kitchen, the competitors rush to prepare them properly because there is still a chance for each of them. Ultimately, Mike wins the Punishment Pass since he fortunately has an extra lobster prepared. After the individual challenges conclude, the Blue and Red Teams head to their first dinner service. As soon as the restaurant doors open, the dining room quickly fills with high-end patrons and VIP guests. Aiden and Gabe from the Blue Team and Nadia and Georgiana from the Red Team take on the role of preparing the table sides. In the Red Kitchen, Jeyda expresses her nervousness since she is working on the appetizers with Mya.

A mishap occurs when Jeyda delivers the salmon salad to the service pass, prompting Gordon to point out that they have not even served the appetizers yet. As the focus turns to the Blue Kitchen, Miles notices that although he is working on the flatbread dough, it isn’t kneading the way he wants it to. Despite the flaw, he decides to put it into the oven, but consequently, Gordon asks him to make it again after it turns out disappointing. Although the Red Team quickly catches up with the order, the judge urges Mya to seek help from Jeyda. However, Jeyda begins struggling with separating the yolk from the egg white to make the tartare, slowing down the kitchen.
While the Red Team struggles to stay on track, Gordon praises Diego for the Wellington he has prepared. In the meantime, Reni focuses on cooking the salmon perfectly, but when she takes it out of the oven, she realizes that the skin is completely blackened. In an attempt to salvage the situation, she starts cooking two pieces of salmon again. Joy notes that Reni appears slightly laid back despite the urgency of the situation. Things take a turn when Gordon realizes that everything else for the table’s orders has been prepared except the salmon, and he urges the Red Team to communicate with each other. Following that, Gordon announces the next order for the Blue Kitchen, but the contestants there fail to hear it clearly, causing confusion.
Major Mistakes Lead the Red Team to Nominate Reni and Jeyda For Elimination
In the Blue Kitchen, chaos erupts when Gordon realizes that the contestants there have prepared the wrong order. He quickly calls them to the front and reminds them about the dishes they originally needed to prepare. As the team’s diners grow impatient waiting for their food, Reni is still struggling to finish preparing the salmon on time. When she finally brings her re-fired salmon to Gordon, he asks her to prepare it again since it is still raw. While the respective diners wait for their salmon, Valentin delivers the remaining proteins to complete another order. Shortly after, Reni brings her salmon to Gordon again, but he is upset to find it raw. Gordon quickly gathers the Red Team at the back of the kitchen and asks them about their motivation and drive.

Gordon then instructs the Red Team to head to their dorms and come up with two names they wish to nominate for elimination. Meanwhile, the Blue Team continues its momentum by preparing the desserts. Back at the dorm, the ladies discuss who to nominate for elimination, and they unanimously agree to select Jeyda and Reni for their mistakes during the service. Once the service concludes, both teams gather before Gordon in the kitchen. Upon being asked, Haley reveals that their first nomination is Reni because she set her team back with the raw salmon. Haley then adds that the second selected person is Jeyda, since her nervousness hasn’t helped them during the service.
Reni’s Raw Salmon Proves Costly as it Results in Her Elimination
Gordon states that he was shocked when Jeyda sent out the salmon salad before the entrée. She quickly explains that she had sent it out too quickly and hadn’t communicated. She also adds that while she was struggling with the eggs, she should’ve asked for help. As Gordon turns his attention to Reni and asks her why she should stay in the competition, she explains that she feels her issues arose from miscommunication. She remarks that she is ready to bounce back because she is here to win and prove it to the judge. Following that, Jeyda states that she should remain in Hell’s Kitchen because she has more to prove to herself. She adds that even if she makes a mistake, she knows she can make a comeback.

Moreover, Jeyda remarks that she has been through worse situations in her life, and therefore, feels she can get through a service in the kitchen. After much consideration, Gordon asks Reni to take off her jacket, pointing out her raw salmon. In her exit interview, she admits that she is shocked to be the first person to go home and notes that Jeyda should have been eliminated instead. Reni feels she should have had the opportunity to redeem herself and ensure Gordon understands why she should be there with the contestants. As the teams head back to their dorms, Joy remarks that she is here to prove to herself that she is meant to be here and can win the competition.
