Ice Cube and Tommy Lee Jones’s first movie together, ‘Outside Man,’ will soon enter production. Written and directed by Brian Helgeland, the action movie will be filmed in Australia starting this November. The plot follows a former Chicago mob enforcer (Cube) who, after being released from prison, is intent on changing his life. Disappearing into rural Texas, he finds work under a skilled furniture craftsman and retired Texas Ranger Gus Wanamaker (Jones). As Ruben and Gus form an unlikely friendship, that bond is jeopardized when both men’s pasts threaten to catch up with them.
Ice Cube most recently made a cameo as a fictional version of himself in the horror comedy movie ‘Anaconda,’ starring Jack Black and Paul Rudd. We have seen Cube in several action movies, including ‘XXX: State of the Union,’ the ‘Ride Along’ movies, the ‘Jump Street’ movies, and the bike movie ‘Torque.’ We will next see him reprise the role of police detective James Payton. Kevin Hart and Tika Sumpter. Shavon Majoi is also cast. He will also be back as Craig Jones in ‘Last Friday,’ the next addition to the ‘Friday’ hood comedy film franchise, which is slated to start shooting later this year.
Tommy Lee Jones previously worked with director Brian Helgeland on the crime thriller ‘Finest Kind,’ which was released in 2023. Lee has done only one film since then, i.e., ‘The Burial,’ a legal drama co-starring Jamie Foxx, which also came out a few days later the same year. Other movies in line for Jones are Season 2 of FX’s ‘The Lowdown,’ the action thriller movie ‘The Razor’s Edge,’ and a Western movie called ‘Angel and the Badman.’
Brian Helgeland has directed ‘Finest Kind,’ the crime drama ‘Legend,’ featuring Tom Hardy in a double role as gangster brothers Kray twins, and the sports drama ’42,’ featuring Chadwick Boseman as baseball legend Jackie Robinson.
