The Spanish-language crime drama ‘In The Mud‘ is an enthralling tale of determination and follows the lives of five female inmates at the La Quebrada prison. The women – Gladys Borges, Marina Delorsi, Yael Rubial, Olga Giuliani, and Soledad Rodríguez – enter the correctional institution after a terrifying accident that binds them forever. As their story progresses, they realize it’s better to stick together if they want to survive in this hostile environment, where women are finding excuses to fight against each other. The prison director, Cecilia Moranzón, is trying to build a peaceful atmosphere inside the prison. Still, no one knows that she has been orchestrating a horrifying conspiracy within the walls of the jail for several years now, and vulnerable inmates find themselves trapped as Moranzón exploits their trust.
As each day grows more intense, Gladys and the other women in her group must form alliances if they hope to survive. However, a dangerous inmate, Amparo Vilches, wants to take control of the prison by defeating the leaders of different tribes. With Amparo showing no mercy to other prison inmates, Gladys takes matters into her own hands and decides to finish the aforementioned inmate. On the other hand, she learns Moranzón is running an illegal adoption ring and takes away the babies of the female inmates. By the end of season 1, Gladys not only exposes Moranzón, but she also defeats Amparo in a brutal fight that takes place inside the prison’s dining hall. After defeating her and leaving her lifeless body on the ground, it is clear that Gladys’ story is far from over. Creator Sebastian Ortega has already confirmed that a second season will arrive soon on Netflix. Although a release date has not been announced, it seems Season 2 might come in the latter half of 2026.
In The Mud Season 2 Will Address Gladys Borges’ Future in La Quebrada
In the final episode of ‘In The Mud,’ Gladys is able to expose Cecilia Moranzón and the prison doctor, Soriano, unraveling their cruel schemes. She takes the help of Sergio Antin and a correctional officer named Alan to bring justice to all the mothers who lost their children because of the duo mentioned above. For exposing Moranzón in front of the world, Antin promises the wife of Marito Borges that she will get her freedom. He’ll talk to the court to reduce her sentence and arrange for her to serve her remaining sentence under house arrest. After the authorities arrested Moranzón, the Governor appointed Antin as the interim director of Le Quebrada, and his decisions now determine everything. So, Gladys has to behave appropriately if she needs her freedom back. However, she gets into a fight with Amparo and drags her lifeless body out of the prison’s dining area.
The season ends with Gladys realizing that she has overcome all her fears and is now in control of the situation, meaning she controls the fragile balance of power within the prison. Season 2 will explore how she moves forward within the prison system and navigates her new authority among the inmates. She will have to maintain her alliances while facing challenges from those who resent her rise to power. The prison administration, which Antin now runs, might not want to give her any absolute freedom, prompting Gladys to act carefully and assert her influence across the La Quebrada. Moreover, the upcoming edition might also explore whether Gladys gets out of prison. Antin promised her that he would tell the court of law about how she helped in unraveling Moranzón’s conspiracy. With Gladys brutally dragging her opponent’s body in front of Antin, it becomes clear that Antin might betray her and leave Gladys to face the consequences alone.
As a result, the upcoming edition could see Gladys Borges going against Antin and fighting for her freedom. While doing that, she might have to take the help of her friends, Yael, Olga, and Soledad, to come out of the problematic situations as her new nemesis schemes from inside the penitentiary. Meanwhile, her relationship with Yael will be an essential plotline to explore because it seems Gladys has feelings for her, and she could use some love to navigate the emotional toll of life inside the prison. On the other hand, new prisoners with their agendas may arrive, shaking up everything she has built. All the future challenges will prompt the lead protagonist to think about how far she is willing to go to protect herself and her friends.
Season 2 of In The Mud Might Explore Yael’s Life Without Her Daughter
If there’s one character who made the ultimate sacrifice in season 1 of ‘In The Mud,’ it has to be Yael Rubial. In the series’s initial part, she kept telling Moranzón that she wanted to see her daughter, Brisa. When her child finally arrived at the prison, she felt normal. When Governor Faccia’s wife, Eugenia, meets Brisa, she immediately forms a connection with her. She spends time with the little girl and even takes her out of the prison to visit interesting places. As soon as Faccia learns about Moranzón’s adoption ring, he wants her to help him formally adopt Brisa. When Yael gets to know about this plan, she refuses to sign the papers. However, Moranzón stitches a plan, and Faccia takes Brisa away. In the end, Moranzón gets exposed, and Brisa returns to Yael. However, she realizes that she doesn’t want her daughter to experience a cruel life through the harsh realities of prison. As a result, she formally requests Eugenia to adopt Brisa, sacrificing her happiness.
Season 2 of ‘In The Mud’ could show the character struggling with the absence of her daughter and the emotional weight of their separation. Yael might wrestle with longing and the desire to protect her kid from afar. Apart from showcasing how she steers through the difficult prison situations, the second edition could explore how Yael tries to stay in touch with Brisa and find ways to meet her. At the same time, she could face new challenges inside the prison, testing her resilience and adaptability. With Gladys being close to Yael, Gladys’ opponents might use Yael as bait, hoping to lure her into a trap and weaken her authority over the prison. The season could also delve into Yael’s own past and motivations, showing how her love for Brisa shapes her choices.
The Netflix Series Might Explore Old and New Relationships To Add Depth
With Gladys Borges being the heart of ‘In The Mud,’ there’s no doubt that her story will continue in the second season. As a result, Ana Garibaldi will be returning to portray the lead protagonist. Apart from her, the second edition will also mark the return of Carolina Ramírez as Yael Rubial, Erika de Sautu Riestra as Olga Giuliani, Camila Peralta as Soledad Rodríguez, Gerardo Romano as Sergio Antín, Juana Molina as Piquito, and Lorena Vega as Zurda. Zurda’s return will be interesting to watch because she was the leader of one of the prison tribes. However, Amparo sidelined her and became superior. While Gladys helped her defeat Amparo, Season 2 might see her getting jealous of the control Gladys might have over the prison resources. Her interactions with Marito Borges’s wife will complicate matters, testing new alliances and stirring tension.
Another character who will return for Season 2 is Marina Delorsi (Valentina Zanere). Although she manages to get out of prison and wants to start a new life, her appearance in the forthcoming edition will add unexpected twists. She could return to the jail under mysterious circumstances, perhaps drawn back by a hidden secret. Apart from returning cast members, season 2 of ‘In The Mud’ might also introduce new characters, bringing new twists and turns to the narrative. Since Gladys is now the new leader, the show will definitely introduce new opponents who will challenge her and push her to test her limits. Meanwhile, some characters might ally with her and become her friends. Nevertheless, all the new characters will enrich the story and give it the much-needed emotional depth. With these new challenges and alliances, the second season will take Gladys’ journey to the next level. Every character, old or new, will play a role in shaping her story and the fate of those around her.
