In the Mud Season 3 Plot and Cast Theories

In the Mud’ concludes its season 2 on a high note, finding a more grounded closure for the narratives of protagonist Gladys and the others. La Quebrada undergoes a new power shift with Zurda coming out on top in the wake of Gringa Casares’ death. As a result, the female prison facility system achieves some semblance of normalcy. Meanwhile, power moves are made behind the scenes for administrative control over the facility as well. Director Beatriz ends up setting Antin up for failure, revealing his true colors to the feared drug lord, Aquino.

Thus, despite the odds stacked against her, Gladys manages to survive the finale and embraces the fact that she will have to continue serving time for the foreseeable future. Consequently, there’s plenty of potential left for new misadventures and complications to unravel in La Quebrada, which seems to have a penchant for courting trouble. No official news has been made yet regarding the greenlighting of another season for the show. Nonetheless, in the event of a speedy renewal, season 3 might be on the horizon for fans sometime around 2028.

In the Mud Season 3 Will Follow Gladys Finding Her Footing in La Quebrada

Over the two seasons of ‘In the Mud,’ Gladys has had to acquaint herself with the prison’s politics and power hierarchies twice. After the end of season 1, the criminal somehow manages to return to civil society as a part of a reintegration program. Nonetheless, trouble is only ever so far away from the protagonist. As a result, it doesn’t take long before she’s back in the slammer at the beginning of season 2. Nonetheless, it’s unlikely that the show would pull a similar storyline in the event of a potential season 3. If Glady’s narrative continues, it’s bound to pick up sometime in the aftermath of Gringa’s demise and Zurda’s rise to power.

The seasoned criminal will most likely have been a part of the inmate population throughout the gap between seasons 2 and 3. Therefore, Gladys will finally get the opportunity to establish herself as a long-term pillar of the La Quebrada convict community in a similar fashion to Zurda. Her notable feats, from Julian’s kidnapping and Gringa’s downfall to her personal feud with Antin, will sharpen her reputation enough to cement her place in the higher rungs of the power ladder. As such, we can expect to see further development in her dynamic with Zurda, not only on a personal level, but as influential individuals in the prison as well. This will open up the possibility of the character making a play for the kingpin role in the prison or her becoming a closer confidant for the current leader.

In the Mud Season 3 Will Bring a Blend of New and Old Characters

As a spin-off series to the critically acclaimed Spanish series ‘El Marginal,’ ‘In the Mud’ (Originally titled ‘En el Barro’) retains a crucial connection to the character of Gladys Guerra, aka La Borges. Her connection to Borges, a character from the original show, makes her crucial to the worldbuilding of the franchise. Therefore, it will be highly expected for actress Ana Garibaldi to reprise her role if the show gets greenlit for a third season. Alongside the protagonist, several other characters have established themselves as staples in the narrative over the course of two seasons. For the same reasons, characters like Zurda (Lorena Vega), Yael (Carolina Ramírez), and Olga (Érika De Sautu Riestra) are also likely to return.

Additionally, some of the newer additions to the cast might also stick around for a long time in the series, further developing and expanding their characters’ narratives. These include names like Beatriz Lanteri, the new Director of La Quebrada (Inés Estévez), and Helena, the pedophilic high school teacher who groomed one of her students (Julieta Ortega). Inversely, some characters who made an impact in the previous seasons, like Antin (Gerardo Romano), Solita (Camila Peralta), Nicole (China Suárez), and Cachete (Ana Devin), are less likely to return given the conclusions of their storylines. However, in their place, the show is sure to introduce some new characters.

In the Mud Season 3 Might See a Power Shift Inside the Prison or in the Director’s Office

One of the most crucial developments that happens in ‘In the Mud’ season 2 is the death of Sergio Antin. In La Quebrada, there’s an underground business run by the inmates. As a part of the deal struck between the criminals and the wardens, some of the women go out on nightly outings. In these outings, the women target wealthy men and seduce them to get access to their hotel rooms and more. Afterward, their targets are drugged so that the women can make off with their victims’ money and expensive belongings. The money earned from these outings is split between the criminals and the officials in charge of the prison. From the get-go, Antin has been one of the officials making money from these outings.

This also means that Antin has been covering for Zurda and her gang, allowing them the liberties that let them run such an operation. Consequently, his death is bound to bring new and possibly unwanted changes to the prison. For the time being, it seems like Beatriz might be taking the helm on the project. However, given the power vacuum that has opened up right above her in the power ladder, it will only be a matter of time before a new face enters the landscape. Alternatively, although the internal power hierarchy in the prison is stabilized with Zurda’s reign, a new addition, similar to Gringa, could potentially shake up the entire system.
