When a 21-year-old college student named Isaac Walker was found dead at the Sunset Plaza Apartments in Tulsa, Oklahoma, the entire community was left shaken to its core. While his loved ones, including his mother, were grieving the immense loss, the detectives began investigating the case in an effort to get justice for the young man. The witness statements allowed the investigators to uncover a tale of revenge that resulted in the murder. A&E’s ‘The First 48: Unfriendly Fire’ chronicles the case and the ensuing investigation in detail from the detectives’ perspective.
Isaac Walker Was Found Dead Outside His Friend’s Apartment
Born on December 5, 2000, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, to Francine Alicia Walker, Isaac Lee Walker grew up in the company of his mother and relatives, especially his aunt Kay Kay. He went to Anderson Elementary and Monroe Demonstration Academy before earning his High School Diploma from Langston Hughes Academy. A devoted member of the New Bethany Missionary Baptist Church, Isaac loved playing football and basketball. While attending Langston University, he played linebacker on the college football team. He also enjoyed fixing motorbikes in his free time.
Isaac had a bright future ahead of him, but all his ambitions were shattered when fate intervened on the evening of October 14, 2022. Around 5:45 pm, the police received multiple calls about a shooting incident at the Sunset Plaza Apartments near North Detroit and East Independence Street. Upon reaching the scene of the crime, the detectives discovered Isaac dead in the doorway of an apartment, which turned out to be his friend’s. He was shot a total of seven times, which resulted in his demise. The police found seven .223 rifle casings at the crime scene, along with two baseball hats and Isaac’s cell phone.
Isaac Walker Had an Ongoing Feud With the Killer
As part of the investigation, the detectives interviewed several witnesses to gather as much information as possible about the crime. Through the interviews, the authorities learned that the two suspects were wearing ski masks and baseball hats as they headed towards the crime scene with a rifle. They reportedly dropped their hats while fleeing the crime scene. Isaac’s mother led them to a former friend named Jayveon Washington, with whom Isaac had been feuding in the weeks leading up to the murder. Upon digging deeper, the detectives found that Jayveon and Isaac were friends who had gotten into altercations a couple of times over Jayveon’s then-girlfriend. During the first fight, Jayveon reportedly punched Isaac and knocked his tooth out. The latter fought back a few days later by stabbing Jayveon with a knife and hospitalizing him.

As per reports, the injured man decided not to press charges against Isaac and went to his hometown — Little Rock, Arkansas. A few weeks later, Jayveon and his girlfriend began threatening Isaac, telling him that they were going to arrive with some men from Arkansas and shoot him. On the fateful day, Jayveon and one of his friends returned to Tulsa armed with shotguns and shot him to death at the apartment complex. After staying at a relative of Jayveon’s girlfriend, the couple left for Little Rock the following day. With the help of a relative, the detectives managed to obtain Jayveon’s phone number. Upon accessing his cell phone records, they placed him near the crime scene at the time of the murder and obtained a DNA warrant for him.
Thus, the same was relayed to the Little Rock Police Department, who tracked him down at a relative’s house and served a warrant for his DNA. Through surveillance footage of the area near the apartment where Jayveon had been staying prior to the murder and near the crime scene, the police spotted his white sedan heading towards the crime scene. Moreover, his DNA matched the samples recovered from one of the hats found at the site. Thus, in December 2022, he was charged with first-degree murder in connection with Isaac Walker’s death. About a month later, Jayveon turned himself in to the Tulsa County Jail and requested an attorney.
Jayveon Washington is Currently Incarcerated at an Oklahoma Prison Facility

More than two years later, around March 2025, Jayveon Washington’s murder trial got underway. The prosecution presented DNA evidence and security footage linking the defendant to the crime. On the other hand, the defense argued that Jayveon was innocent and had nothing to do with the killing. Finally, on March 4, 2025, he was convicted of first-degree murder. About a month later, in April, the killer was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole. Meanwhile, the search for the second suspect is still on. As of today, 23-year-old Jayveon Washington is serving his sentence at Red Rock Correctional Center in Lawton, Oklahoma.
