From an early age, he had to take up the reins in his home due to his mother’s serious illness. In the midst of that emotional turmoil, food became his escape and a source of comfort. However, it slowly turned into a dangerous cycle, gradually bringing his weight upto 661 lbs. A life-threatening health problem in his 20s served as a wake-up call for him, marking a new beginning. He finally decided to take control of his weight, which became nothing short of inspiring for the viewers.
Issac Martinez Received Approval For Bariatric Surgery After a Year
Isaac Anthony Martinez felt that even basic tasks like putting on clothes became overwhelming due to his high weight. He had to rely on a walker and could barely move or stand for long without experiencing discomfort. By the time he graduated from high school, Isaac was already over 500 lbs. Eventually, this started taking a toll on his body, and he suffered a cardiac arrest, slipping into a coma for nearly a week. The terrifying experience became a turning point since he felt it was his time to seek help. When he first initially met Dr. Younan Nowzaradan, he weighed 661 lbs. With unmatched dedication, Issac decided to move forward with his weight loss journey. However, he soon realized that this voyage was far from smooth.
Issac’s mother was undergoing her cancer treatments during this time, which often made it very difficult for him to visit the doctor’s appointments. Although this affected his progress, he did not give up and continued to push through. With therapy and adopting a healthy lifestyle, he was committed to bringing a real change in his life. He avoided not only unhealthy foods but also resisted the temptations that once consumed him. Finally, he lost an incredible 122 lbs, bringing his weight down to 538 lbs by the end of his time on the show. His hard work paid off when Dr. Nowzaradan gave him the long-awaited approval for weight loss surgery. However, the doctor mentioned that it was set to take place in the next two months following the show, provided he lost 39 more pounds.
Issac Martinez is Thriving With His Crochet Business After His Musical Journey
Issac’s professional journey is evidence of his resilience, sacrifice, and rediscovering passion. He was not only academically gifted but was equally talented with music during his time in high school. He ranked within the top four of his class and was skilled in playing several instruments like saxophone or the trumpet. He made sure to try out everything, whether it was being in a marching band or in the school orchestra. Issac’s talent did not go unnoticed because after graduating from Wilmer-Hutchins High School in June 2016, he earned a scholarship to the University of Houston.
However, life had some other plans in store for Issac. Shortly after this, the world shifted once again for him when his mother was diagnosed with cancer. As a result, he started missing classes, eventually costing him his scholarship and bringing a halt to his career in music. Despite every challenge, Issac stood like a rock and refused to let go of his passion. During his time on the show, he gained emotional clarity through therapy and began reconnecting with the parts of himself that had once brought him joy with renewed motivation. Issac chose to reenroll in a musical course, slowly rebuilding the dream he had once left behind.
As of writing, Isaac Martinez has turned an entirely new page of his life. He has found a fresh and fulfilling outlet with his personalized crochet work. Initially, it started as a passion project in February 2021, which has now blossomed into a thriving small business named Made To Love. From incredibly beautiful flower bouquets to charming custom plush dogs, Issac has truly been capturing the hearts of his customers. He has also mastered the art of designing stylish tote bags, cozy ponchos, and adorable ruffle bucket hats for children with his prowess in crocheting. In February 2023, Issac’s growing reputation got the attention of digital creator Gaesha Tremble. The two collaborated on a special commission for the new popular TSR bucket hat.
Issac Martinez Has Devoted His Love to His Family and Furry Pup
Family has always been Isaac’s first priority, no matter what decision or sacrifice he made. Throughout his weight loss journey, their relentless support served as his lifeline. They stood by him, not only cheering but also walking beside him. They adopted healthier habits as a family so that Issac never felt like he was on the journey alone. Above all, his bond with his mother, Jayne, is especially profound. It is highlighted by the moment when he did not hesitate to leave behind his college dreams to be by her side to take care of her. Even during his own challenging weight loss journey, he often postponed his appointments to make sure she was coping well with her Cancer treatments. At present, Issac showcases his love by crocheting comfortable ponchos with love for her.
Issac has always extended the same selflessness toward his siblings. From a very young age, he stepped into a role of responsibility, caring for them after their mother’s stroke. He always expressed his love through food by preparing comforting meals for them. Issac is deeply connected to his three brothers- Zane, Angel, and Ken and his sister, Angeliza, and never misses a chance to make them feel seen, loved, and cherished. However, Issac’s story is incomplete without mentioning his beloved companion, Pablo, who is not just a pet dog for him but also his family. As of writing, Issac has kept further updates on his weight-loss surgery under wraps. However, we do know that he is utilizing every moment of his life, reveling in the little and big achievements.
