One of the trio that stood out in season 2 of Netflix’s ‘Stranded With the Mother-in-Law’ was Ivana Lopes, her son, Ícaro Lopes, and her daughter-in-law, Jéssica Souza. What unfolded on screen among them was unusual, as it stemmed from a deeply rooted clash between the mother and son. According to them, when Ícaro was young, his mother had made a life-altering decision to leave him with his grandparents. Although she believed she had left him in good hands, he felt that he had been abandoned. On the show, Ícaro yearned for acknowledgment, and Ivana hoped for understanding. Since Jéssica always supported her partner, her mother-in-law perceived her as someone inflexible. To Ícaro’s wife, Ivana was someone who wasn’t ready to speak her mind.
Ivana Lopes Became Ready to Confront Her Past as Old Wounds Resurfaced
On the show, Ivana Lopes explained that it was one of the hardest periods of her life when she had no choice but to leave Ícaro in the care of his grandparents. However, from Ícaro’s perspective, he felt that he had been denied the love every child deserves from their mother. From a young age, Jéssica had been by his side, making sure he never felt alone. So when she and Ivana entered the villa, it didn’t take long for the unresolved past to rise to the surface. Conversations between both of them gradually began to turn tense. Jéssica couldn’t understand why Ivana refused to acknowledge Ícaro’s pain. However, Ivana felt misjudged, insisting no one was trying to see from her perspective. As Ícaro grew anxious in the bunker, he began to fear that his mother’s defensiveness might create problems in his relationship with Jéssica.
When Ícaro learned that Ivana was upset because he had said she had abandoned him, it pushed him to the breaking point. He pressed the SOS button to meet her and Jéssica face-to-face. During that emotional encounter, Ivana reassured him that she was finally ready to talk things through. It marked the beginning of a silver lining on the horizon, as the relationship between all three of them improved considerably following that. It paved the way for them to win the various challenges, thanks to their communication skills. Ultimately, the coordination among the trio helped them secure the win during the Finale. While Ícaro and Ivana took R$150K each and decided to donate a portion of it to charity, they agreed that Jéssica should receive R$250K.
While Ivana Has Chosen a Private Life, Ícaro is Flourishing as a Musician
By the end of episode 4, the shift in Ivana and Ícaro’s dynamic was undeniable. The once-distant mother and son began putting in real effort to rebuild what had been broken for so long. Jéssica also found herself softening as she watched them and began repairing her own relationship with her mother-in-law. Beyond the show, Ivana has returned to the place that always grounded her, which is none other than the kitchen. She is a cook by profession and loves letting the flavors speak for her. As of writing, she has chosen to keep further details about her personal life and career private. It becomes more evident from her private Instagram account. Meanwhile, Ícaro has continued carving out his own professional trajectory. He works as an electrician, and alongside this, his heart beats strongest for music.
After graduating from the Federal University of Recôncavo da Bahia in Brazil with a Bachelor’s degree in Brazilian Popular Music, Ícaro has poured himself into singing songs that help him navigate life’s challenges. He is currently a part of the Toca Dos Leões band and even performed during an event at Raul’s Cove in July 2024. It was a significant step forward in his artistic journey. Apart from that, Ícaro’s days are often filled with adventure, as he surfs on waves, kayaks in open waters, and hikes through the lush green forests of Brazil. His life also greatly revolves around his partner, Jéssica, who stood beside him as a rock through every challenge. They love escaping into nature and wandering along the beach with their furry pup, who roams happily beside them. Additionally, Ícaro enjoys going skateboarding from time to time.
