J.J. Johnson is set to embark on a new project soon! Moviedelic has learned that the writer-director will direct the pilot for ‘Cold Sweat’ next. Principal photography for the episode will begin in January 2025 in Toronto, Ontario. Further details about the cast and crew have not been announced.
The plot revolves around the daughter of a climate scientist who unintentionally becomes an internet sensation and a climate influencer. Lila has always downplayed her father’s concerns about climate change, viewing his work as a scientist as overly dramatic. However, her perspective shifts dramatically when she accompanies him on a research expedition to the Great Barrier Reef. Seeing the vibrant beauty of the corals bleached of their color firsthand prompts a deeply emotional response from the young girl, only for her to write a heartfelt song on it.
Johnson is known for his impactful work in children’s programming. He has received acclaim for creating or co-creating Amazon Prime Video’s ‘Annedroids,’ Hulu’s ‘Endlings,’ and the vibrant Apple TV+ adventure series ‘Jane.’ The latter is an imaginative show that reflects a similar style and message to the upcoming ‘Cold Sweat.’ It follows Jane Garcia, who goes on missions with her brother and a baby chimpanzee to save an endangered animal in each episode.
Johnson’s works often feature prominent use of CGI animation, educational narratives, and themes of sustainability. His other credits include the kids TV show ‘Dino Dex,’ Apple TV+’s ‘Ghostwriter,’ ‘Lockdown,’ and Prime Video’s family comedy ‘Dino Dana.’
Johnson has filmed most of his TV shows in Toronto, including ‘Jane,’ ‘Dino Dex,’ and ‘Ghostwriter.’ The city is home to numerous advanced studios that provide soundstages for the construction of sets to bring the creative concepts of ambitious projects to life. Additionally, Toronto has post-production houses specializing in CGI and animation, ensuring the seamless integration of visual effects into live-action sequences—a hallmark of Johnson’s storytelling style.
