It was back in 2022 when we first came across James Jones in the debut installment of Netflix’s ‘Love on the Spectrum,’ only for him to be a main participant in seasons 2, 3, and 4, too. The truth is, he was admittedly set up on some extremely enjoyable and interesting blind dates throughout the years, yet there was always more of a platonic connection between them. In fact, he is still close friends with Emma Hodgson (from season 1) as well as Maggie Lynee (from season 2), all the while hoping the third time would be the charm for him, which it indeed was. After all, he found himself meeting and falling for Shelley Wolfee.
James and Shelley’s Romance Blossomed Naturally
From the moment we were first introduced to James, he had made it clear that although he has Asperger’s Syndrome, he does not allow it to limit him, his dreams, or his expectations. He then candidly conceded that his ideal partner would be someone kind and caring, as well as someone who would not mind attending Renaissance fairs with him in a complete get-up. He is admittedly a nerd and has some related special interests, so he wants a partner with whom he can share every aspect of his life. Yet, it did take him some time to get used to the dating world itself.
Following a few unsuccessful attempts to secure a romantic connection, James stopped dating for a while, but then he returned in full force owing to his need for a genuine partner by his side. However, the fact that he doesn’t want children and is not fond of pets of any sort limited his pool, eventually resulting in him thinking he could compromise in terms of the latter if he really likes the woman. Unfortunately, even with blind dates, his being active on dating apps, as well as meeting new people through social media platforms, nothing worked out for him until it suddenly did.
In fact, it was not long after James’ date with Sonia Wiggins Agosin, around Mother’s Day in 2024, that everything turned upside down for him. That’s when he first encountered Shelley Wolfee online, only for them to begin talking and realize they had a lot in common. The fact that she isn’t particularly fond of kids or pets also made him feel at ease, and he even liked that while she is quiet by nature, she has a deep passion for not just horror movies but also heavy metal music. So, they actually got to know one another away from the cameras, only to get together before one on his 37th birthday – the day he decided to ask her to be his girlfriend before they sealed the deal with a sweet yet passionate kiss.
James and Shelley Are Head Over Heels in Love Even Today
Although James and Shelley have likely faced their own challenges over time, we are happy to report that they are still romantically involved. From what we can tell, it wasn’t long after they became an official couple that the former let his feelings for her shine through and even penned a song titled “Heavy Metal Queen.” He even wrote a beautiful poem for her wherein he compared her to the moon, which we get to hear in season 4 of the Netflix original production. In other words, she appears to be his muse, his partner, and his ride-or-die in every sense, especially with their communication always being open as well as honest. Honestly, it’s clear there is mutual respect and understanding between them.
James and Shelley’s love is evident in the way they treat one another with utmost care and in the way they are already planning a future together. In fact, they are currently actively looking for a house together – they wish to live with each other before taking the next step in their relationship. Although he has been vocal in expressing that he sees forever in her and wants to marry her one day, she has been quieter about the fact that she shares the sentiment, as she displays her affection through actions. After all, she has attended several fairs with him at his invitation and never shies away from being public about their romance.
From what we can tell through social media, James and Shelley not only like experiencing new things together but also often leave flirtatious comments on each other’s posts. He never misses an opportunity to assert how much he loves her laugh, and he has also often gotten emotional over just how much he loves her as well as how much their bond means to him. As if that’s not enough, together, they are scheduled to be featured guests at the Knight to Remember Annual Gala in April 2026. Honestly, with both of them residing in Boston, Massachusetts, and maintaining genuine affection, loyalty, and understanding towards one another, it’s highly likely they could one day get married. Honestly, we wish them nothing but the best for all their years to come, and we can’t wait to see what’s in the cards for them next.
