Jason Rayburn: What Happened to Angela Diaz’s Former Boyfriend?

In 2016, Mitchell Hadley was arrested on a false stalking charge filed by Angela Diaz, the wife of Mitchell’s former fiancé, Ian Diaz. Angela had accused Mitchell of harassing her, but the investigation soon took an unexpected turn. Ian told investigators he had become suspicious of Angela, prompting detectives to look more closely at her past. During their inquiry, they discovered that Angela had previously dated a man named Jason Rayburn and had allegedly lied to him about having cancer. In Netflix’s ‘A Toxic Love Story,’ Jason is interviewed about his relationship with Angela. He gave insight into her life and behavior before the shocking events at the center of the case unfolded.

Jason Rayburn Became Suspicious of Angela Connell at the Doctor’s Appointment

Jason Rayburn said he first met Angela Connell (later Angela Diaz) in 2013 at a bar in Huntington Beach, California. According to him, she immediately caught his attention with her vivacious and bubbly personality, and the two quickly hit it off. Jason told Angela about his background in law enforcement, and she responded by speaking about her alleged career as an attorney. The two of them soon began a relationship. As their relationship progressed, Angela spent a great deal of time at Jason’s home. When she told him that she had to move out of her house in Irvine, California, Jason asked her to live with him. He believed that Angela was the woman he was meant to be with and envisioned building a future together.

One day, while the two were sitting on the couch, Jason said that Angela told him she had been diagnosed with late-stage cervical cancer. He was devastated by the news and wanted to support her through her treatment. However, according to Jason, Angela insisted on undergoing the treatment on her own and asked him to respect her wishes. Although he was uncomfortable with the arrangement, he reluctantly agreed. His doubts began to grow when he insisted on accompanying Angela to one of her doctor’s appointments. Upon arrival at the clinic, the receptionist informed him that Angela had come in for a routine mole removal, not a cancer-related visit. Jason also discovered that a photograph Angela had previously sent him, claiming it showed her undergoing chemotherapy, had in fact been taken from the internet.

Jason Rayburn Prefers to Lead a Private Life Today

Jason decided to confront Angela Connell at their home along with a few friends, including Mary Bukovskis. He told her that he knew she had lied about working as an attorney for the Department of Justice and that he also no longer believed her cancer diagnosis. They asked Angela to show them a chemotherapy port as proof of her treatment. When she was unable to do so, Jason said he realized that everything he had suspected was true. Angela walked out of the confrontation, and shortly afterward, she and Jason ended their relationship.

He believed he had put the entire experience behind him until 2016, when he saw news reports about Angela’s arrest on fraud and other charges. Although Jason was not involved in the investigation that followed, he likely kept up with the developments in the case, which eventually led to charges against Ian Diaz. Jason has largely stayed out of the public eye, and for the first time, shared details of his experience with Angela in the documentary.
