Netflix’s ‘Love Con Revenge’ is equal parts baffling, intriguing, and haunting as it shines a light upon a handful of scams across the nation wherein the reported perpetrator has been accused of using romance to take financial advantage of their partner turned victims. Among the latter is Jeannie O’Donnell, who claims she went into debt for her boyfriend, Ricky Morrisey, in less than two months, just for her to later allege that he used her money on non-essential purchases.
Jeannie O’Donnell Alleged Her Romance With Ricky Morrisey Eventually Became Her Nightmare
Although a native of Buffalo, New York, Jeannie Marie O’Donnell had been residing in Orlando, Florida, for a few years when she first came across Ricky Morrisey as a Tinder match. He allegedly portrayed himself as a cell phone reseller who had recently relocated from Boston, Massachusetts, following a breakup with a woman he described as “on the crazy side.” He claimed to his online date that he had tried to make things work, but it got harder over time, driving them to subsequently bond over their past relationship experiences as much as other personal details.
Therefore, Jeannie and Ricky already had a connection by the time they met for their first date, only for the feelings to intensify as they ended up spending the entire day together. The fact that he had come up for a hug almost as soon as she stepped out of her home and opened the car door for her further drew her in, as she hadn’t expected such chivalry. This behaviour seemingly continued as time passed, with him even making it known he wanted to plant roots, have stability, and build a family in the near future, all of which aligned with her values. Jeannie came to think he could be the one for her, so when he allegedly started facing some serious business troubles a month into dating, she was willing to do everything in her power to help out.
According to the show, Ricky claimed he was in desperate need of $50,000 after one of his deals fell through, so he had approached a loan shark who was threatening him for repayment. Jeannie admitted she gradually started having nightmares about it, resulting in her offering to take out a loan for him — she was granted $12,000, all of which she said she immediately handed over to Ricky. She has since stated that what followed was him barely speaking to her for a week before suddenly inviting her to his new address, where he had a brand new gaming laptop and vehicle. That’s when Jeannie said she began to suspect he had never truly been in trouble and that he may have spent her loaned money on these new belongings, leading her to break up with him after just 2 months. In other words, what once felt like a fairytale romance to the Florida resident turned out to be a horror story.

While Jeannie initially believed she didn’t have anyone to go to following her experience with Ricky, since she didn’t want to burden them or be judged, she actually had a whole support system by her side. “Your life just kind of blows up,” she said in the original production. “I… held it in. For so long. I couldn’t tell my parents. I didn’t want my friends to think I was absolutely crazy for doing something so stupid.” However, she ultimately realized she was definitely not in the wrong; instead, her then-boyfriend, whom she alleged had conned her, was the one who needed to face the consequences of his actions. Accordingly, Jeannie began confiding in loved ones.
Jeannie even garnered the courage to share her story in ‘Love Con Revenge,’ which helped in Ricky’s apprehension in an unrelated fraud case. She had given producers his last known addresses, enabling them to get him arrested on the warrant against him. Therefore, even though she herself didn’t get legal justice, she is glad that her and Bridget Phillips’ truth about Ricky is now public because it might prevent others from getting involved with him. Coming to Jeannie’s personal standing, with this matter now being a thing of the past for her, it appears as if she is doing her best to move forward in life to the best of her abilities. She is currently dedicating herself to her passion for food, travel, and new experiences, while also spending quality time with her friends and family.
The 40-year-old shares a special bond with her parents and sister, so they seemingly do their best to celebrate all birthdays, holidays, and personal milestones together. They, along with her close friends, have been there for her through everything, making it come as no surprise that they often even simply hang out at local establishments, rodeos, and music concerts. On the professional front, the former Freeman Company employee now serves at both Impact XM and Czarnowski Collective, which are marketing agencies that create brand experiences. This is significant for her because she is actively dabbling in content creation as of writing, so her corporate work will inadvertently help her hone her skills and teach her own to evolve into a brand herself.
