In June 2011, Camilo Salazar of Miami, Florida, was reported missing. A few days later, police responded to reports of burning human remains, which were later identified as Camilo’s. Their investigation revealed that Camilo had previously had an extramarital affair with a woman named Jenny Maureen Marin. The evidence led them to conclude that Jenny’s husband, Manuel Marin, had hired three individuals — Roberto Isaac, Alexis Perdomo, and Ariel Gandulla — to carry out the murder. He was ultimately convicted of conspiracy and other charges. NBC’s ‘Dateline: The End of the Affair’ covers Jenny’s involvement in the investigation and her reaction to the entire incident.
Jenny Marin Claimed That an Unhappy Marriage Led to Her Affair
Jenny Maureen, a New Jersey native, was just 23 years old when she first met Manuel Marin, who was 45 and married at the time. Although they were attracted to each other, their relationship did not develop further. By the early 2000s, Jenny had moved to South Florida. She had started dating someone new and became friends with Camilo Salazar, who was then her partner’s acquaintance. After her romantic relationship ended, she moved back to New Jersey, where she reconnected with Manuel. He divorced his wife for her and began a new life with Jenny. The couple had two children and settled into a seaside penthouse condo. Manuel was the president of several South Florida Presidente Supermarkets, and he was able to give her a good life.
The family eventually moved to Coral Gables, Florida, but Jenny’s life wasn’t as perfect as it seemed. She described feeling extremely lonely and called her marriage “ice cold.” During this time, she reconnected with Camilo, and they began an affair, secretly meeting behind their spouses’ backs. Neither of them intended to leave their marriage, but they found comfort in each other. They used burner phones and arranged secret meetings in hotels to hide the affair. In February 2011, while Jenny was waiting in line at a bakery to meet Camilo, Manuel caught her. She claimed that he was furious, dragged her out by her arm, and forced her into his SUV.
Jenny claimed that despite her agreement to end the affair, her marriage continued to deteriorate. She stated that after promising to stop meeting with Camilo, her relationship with Manuel grew even more distant, and communication between them became rare. Yet, a month later, Jenny and Manuel resumed their conversations. In May 2011, she testified that she, along with her kids and father, went on a yacht trip with Camilo to Bimini for a few days. During the trip, she noticed her husband spending most of his time on his phone. She testified that he warned her to stop doing what she was doing and told her it would be a “disgrace” otherwise.
Jenny Marin Has Kept a Low Profile Since Her Husband’s Trial
According to Jenny Marin, on June 1, 2011, they returned to Lighthouse Point, where Manuel Marin and the yacht captain allegedly left in a hurry after saying they had an emergency to attend to. She noted that it was unusual for them to leave in such a rush, as they typically took time to clean the boat after their trips. She grew worried when she didn’t hear from Camilo, and then Manuel disappeared as well. She said that the latter had taken only his passport and a few belongings before calling later to apologize for leaving without any notice. It wasn’t until Jenny consulted with a lawyer that she discovered the truth about what had happened to Camilo. While Manuel had been hiding in Spain, he allegedly continued to communicate with Jenny and their children through an international phone number.
The prosecution later claimed that in March 2018, Jenny traveled to Cuba with her two children to meet him. Jenny later admitted that she never mentioned the events surrounding Camilo’s death during this time and explained that she wanted her children to maintain a connection with their father. She also mentioned feeling confused and unsure of how to move forward. She later expressed regret at her actions in court. In 2023, Jenny testified against Manuel during his trial, as well as against his accomplices. During her testimony, she revealed that shortly after the 2011 incident, Manuel’s son from a previous marriage had facilitated the divorce. As a result, Jenny was granted the house, custody of the children, and $10,000 per month in child support payments. Since then, she has kept a low profile and remained largely out of the public eye.
