With him starting a new job as a tech recruiter, Johna began her own career in video production at a local news station before transitioning to work at a state agency. However, in 1998, following the birth of their daughter, Liana, she chose to step away from her career to focus on raising their family. When their son, Jentzen Ramirez, was born on August 9, 2006, their family felt complete. In 2011, recognizing her daughter’s growing potential as a young actor, Johna made the decision to move to Los Angeles, California, to support her daughter’s aspirations while Nelson remained in Texas. Johna began noticing that while Liana was working backstage, people often complimented Jentzen as well.

More troubling to her was what she described as an inappropriate level of influence that Tiffany Smith exerted over the personal lives of the young cast members. By this time, several other members of the squad had already left, with allegations of being mistreated or targeted. Feeling increasingly concerned, Johna decided to call for support. She asked her husband, Nelson, to come to Los Angeles to help break things off. However, the conversation didn’t go as she expected. Nelson reportedly believed that Jentzen was thriving in the environment and felt Johna might be overreacting. By the end of 2020, Jentzen had started distancing himself from Johna and gradually cut her out of his life.
Jentzen and Johna Ramirez Don’t Seem to be a Part of Each Other’s Lives Today
On March 11, 2021, Johna Ramirez filed for divorce from Nelson Ramirez and sought joint custody of their son, Jentzen Ramirez. She had hoped that doing so would give her an opportunity to reconnect and spend more time with him. However, on November 29, 2021, her daughter, Liana Ramirez, submitted a legal petition seeking temporary guardianship of Jentzen. She claimed that Jentzen wasn’t being properly cared for and alleged that their mother was rarely present at home. Around the same time, Johna shared that Jentzen had also begun pursuing legal emancipation.
She contested the guardianship petition, and the case reached a standstill. While Johna was not among the 11 plaintiffs who filed the 2022 lawsuit against Tiffany Smith, she nonetheless became a central figure in the ongoing public discussion, with her experiences echoing many of the concerns and allegations raised by others. Since then, Jentzen appears to have stepped back from creating content with Piper Rockelle and is no longer publicly connected to her on social media. Although there’s no clear sign that Johna and her son have reconciled, she remains hopeful that he will eventually come back into her life.

Johna Kay Ramirez has built a diverse and impactful career in media, storytelling, and digital content creation.
