Jeremy Parnell Attended a Birthday Party Shortly Before He Was Shot
Jeremy Hithanue Sr. Parnell was born on October 4, 1988, and spent most of his life in Grand Rapids, Michigan. He came from a large, close-knit family with siblings, cousins, and loving parents, and he grew into a well-respected member of the community. Known for his strength and courage, he often stepped up during difficult times to support his loved ones. After his sister, Tiffany Parnell, passed away from a heart attack in December 2023, she left behind five children. It was Jeremy took the lead in organizing a fundraiser for them. He also coordinated the efforts of others who contributed to support the family.
On the evening of June 28, 2024, Jeremy and a few of his family members attended a birthday celebration that took place on a party bus near Ardmore Street SE and Thelma Avenue SE in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Shortly after midnight, at around 12:20 am on June 29, police received reports of gunfire in the area. When officers arrived, they discovered bullet casings but found no victims at the scene. The party appeared to have dispersed by then. Soon after, one man from the event was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening gunshot injuries. Around 3 am, Jeremy, 35, was brought to the hospital with a gunshot wound to the chest. Despite medical efforts, he was pronounced dead shortly afterward. His death was officially ruled a homicide.
Witness Accounts Led Police to a Suspect in Jeremy Parnell’s Murder
Police immediately began interviewing those who had attended the party and quickly started piecing together what had happened. While everyone recalled hearing gunshots, Jeremy Parnell’s family said they lost sight of him in the chaos that followed. They searched for him for hours, and eventually, his sister discovered his car parked on a nearby street, not far from where the shooting had occurred. Jeremy was inside, suffering from a gunshot wound, and she rushed him to the hospital. Around that time, police also spoke to another witness who claimed she had been outside the bus when the shooting took place.
The witness claimed that she saw Ronald Armour Jr., another guest at the party, involved in an argument during which he allegedly shot Jeremy. When shown a photo lineup by the police, she reportedly identified Ronald as the shooter. Investigators also interviewed the latter’s brother, who offered a different version of events. He stated that after hearing gunshots, he exited his truck with his own firearm and fired a few warning shots. According to him, he then saw Ronald engaged in a physical altercation with another individual. He claimed that Ronald had a gun in his hand during the fight and that the weapon discharged when his brother punched the other person.
Police also questioned Ronald, who had allegedly told his brother that Jeremy had approached him with a gun. In his official statement, the suspect claimed he was attacked by two individuals during the party, one of whom was armed. He insisted that he did not fire any shots and that he only defended himself before leaving the scene. The Major Case Team at the Grand Rapids Police Department (GRPD) continued investigating the case for several days, and in October 2024, they made an arrest.
Ronald Armour Jr. is Awaiting His Trial Today
In October 2024, the Grand Rapids Police Department confirmed the arrest of 38-year-old Ronald Armour Jr. in connection with the fatal shooting of Jeremy Parnell. He was formally charged with open murder and the use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. Based on available information, it appears that Ronald was not granted bail and is currently being held at the Kent County Jail in Grand Rapids, Michigan. As of the latest update, he remains in custody as he awaits his upcoming trial, which will determine the outcome of the charges brought against him.
