Missing persons cases are often the most difficult for families, as they are left with very few answers and lingering uncertainty. While an open investigation can offer hope, there are times when loved ones begin to fear an outcome that feels inevitable to them. This was the painful reality faced by the family of Jerrica Lizette Laws when she went missing from Park Forest, Illinois, in August 2015. The case was explored in detail on ID’s ‘Hunt for the Missing: Chicago,’ in an episode titled ‘The Secret Life of Jerrica Laws,’ which examined the investigation and the developments made over time.
Jerrica Lizette Laws Never Returned After Leaving Her Home to Meet a Friend
Jerrica Lizette Laws was born on July 20, 1991, and grew up in Park Forest. Her family described her as someone who preferred staying at home and did not go out much. She was actively involved in her church and had a close circle of friends who cared deeply for her. Within her family as well, Jerrica was loved and cherished by everyone. According to her loved ones, she may have had an undiagnosed mental health condition, which affected certain aspects of her independence, including her ability to drive. Despite this, she enjoyed simple routines, especially going on walks. She frequently walked through areas like Park Forest and Matteson, often following a familiar and consistent route she was comfortable with.

On August 16, 2015, Jerrica left her home to go on her usual walk, something she often did and which did not raise any immediate concern. Her family recalled that she had mentioned plans to meet a friend that evening. She left her residence in the 200 block of Lee Street around 7 pm, but never returned. When she did not come back home, her family grew increasingly worried. The next day, after waiting and searching on their own, they reported her missing, convinced that something was wrong, and sought police assistance to locate her.
Jerrica Lizette Laws’ Case Remains Unsolved Even Today

One of the biggest concerns for Jerrica Lizette Laws’ family was that she had left her purse behind. It contained her ID, phone, and other personal belongings, and these were items they said she never went anywhere without. It made it a major red flag that something was wrong. Police searched nearby trails around the park and areas close to her home, but found no significant leads. Community searches were organized, and her friends and family widely circulated missing person flyers, hoping for any information. Despite these efforts, there was little progress. To this day, her case remains open and unsolved, with no major updates released to the public. It has been classified as an “endangered missing” case due to concerns about her health, and her family continues to hold onto hope for answers.
