Jill Schardein: Where is the Selfie Scammer’s Victim Now?

In 2023, the entire city of Nashville, Tennessee, was left baffled as a local man named Todd Dean was publicly accused of deceiving several women into relationships for financial gain. He reportedly had a comfortably luxurious lifestyle as an entrepreneur, as per Netflix’s ‘Love Con Revenge: The Selfie Scammer,’ yet every aspect of it was supported by all the women he dated and conned. Amongst them was Jill Morgan Schardein, who unfortunately lost her entire retirement savings to her then-boyfriend before realizing she had been swept off her feet, only to be swindled.

Jill Schardein Trusted Todd Dean As He Made Her Feel Safe and Seen

A proud native of Bowling Green, Kentucky, Jill Schardein is no stranger to compromise and success, considering she built her career in sales from the ground up while also being a single mother. Therefore, by the time she was ready to truly start dating again, around a decade after her divorce and when her daughter was 17, she knew she wanted a stable, emotionally intelligent man. That’s when she came across Todd Dean on Facebook Dating. She was quickly enamored by his charm, confidence, and career as the Founder-CEO of Sanjara Wellness. Jill looked up Todd after they matched, and it only intrigued her further as he was described as a “proven visionary” while promoting his mental health-dedicated business. She mentioned he asked them to exchange numbers almost as soon as they began talking, and started sending her mini-vlogs from the next day.

Whether it be a good morning wish, an outfit check, random updates, or casual comments, he preferred to communicate via videos, but she didn’t mind it too much, as the conversations were good. Jill and Todd’s subsequent first date also lived up to her expectations, with him not only taking her out to a good lunch but even driving her to his work-in-progress Sanjara Wellness estate to give her a tour. As per her, his seeming ambition and drive to help others really pulled her in, so she chose to go “all in” without hesitation when he decided to open up to her about his past experiences too. This even prompted her to share her own history with mental health issues, admitting that her mother died by suicide in 2016 and that she herself has struggled with depression/trauma over the years. Despite the long distance, the sales professional thus trusted the entrepreneur implicitly within a short period.

Jill Schardein and Todd Dean’s Relationship Ended Over Money

While Jill Schardein was certain that her relationship with Todd was something special because there was a sense of care as well as understanding between them, he tried to part ways with her in a few months. She claims that she and Todd were living rather domestically by this point, since he had given her keys to his Nashville condominium before asking her to stay on all weekdays. Furthermore, she was willingly doing a lot of his chores on the Sanjara Wellness estate too, such as mowing the lawns, taking out trash, and maintaining its overall aesthetic, when he suddenly iced her out.

Jill didn’t understand why Todd had decided to call it quits in the first place, but the aspiring mental health tycoon came back just as abruptly to reignite their spark and make things official all over again. Not long after, nearly a month and a half since the duo first started dating, he asked her for money for the first time, stating he needed around $1,000 for an emergency. She transferred the funds as she didn’t want to seem unsupportive and truly wanted to help, only to be surprised when he returned the sum with an additional $500 as a sign of gratitude in 48 hours. However, things gradually changed because Todd continued to ask Jill for finances — the amounts ranged from $25 to more than $10,000, with him almost always asserting it was for his business.

The girlfriend kept sending the same despite secretly wondering why he needed her to bear his expenses when he had a nearly $2 million property under the assumption he would soon return it all. Yet, that never happened; instead, money became the primary topic of conversation between them, and she had to admit she could no longer give him anything since she had emptied her retirement savings. As per Jill’s account, she gave Todd over $30,000 in less than a year, yet what ultimately broke them was her refusal to borrow money from her parents, friends, or then-17-year-old daughter. She wonders what she might have done if she had had access to her daughter’s accounts, but she is glad she didn’t because the entrepreneur split with her the moment she couldn’t finance him.

Jill Schardein is Moving Forward With Her Life Today

It was not long after Jill and Todd parted ways for good that she realized she had been scammed, as she could no longer even contact him, resulting in her attempting to file a police complaint. She was initially told this was a domestic issue to be solved in a civil manner. Yet, she was taken more seriously when she tried again, armed with testimonies from other women he had allegedly conned. In the end, her case went all the way to court, which concluded that the so-called “visionary” had indeed taken advantage of his then-girlfriend before ordering him to repay her a sum of $30,727.50. Jill has not seen a single penny of this amount because he ended up filing for bankruptcy in late December 2023, and she doesn’t think she ever will, but she is happy that at least justice has been served.

Coming to Jill’s individual standing, the Western Kentucky University graduate continues to thrive as a Sales Professional in her hometown of Bowling Green, Kentucky, to this day. She kick-started her career all the way back in 2000 as a Sales Representative at Anthem, where she loyally served for 13 years before joining Houchens Insurance Group as a Sales Specialist. She really honed her skill sets here, as she later evolved into a Business Development Manager at Luttrell Staffing Group (2019-2023) and then at Elwood Staffing Services (2024-2025). However, today, in her 40s, she proudly serves as an Off-Premise Salesperson at KEG 1 River City, a job that enables her to succeed in a competitive market without forcing her to compromise on her personal life.

After all, Jill’s incredible daughter Morgan, adorable Cavalier King Charles Spaniel Ollie, and beloved extended friends and family are her priorities. Spending quality time with her loved ones is all that really matters to her heart because it provides her with not only a sense of belonging but also peace and purpose. Moreover, Jill is an avid supporter of local small businesses, too, all the while doing her best to advocate for women’s voices as well as suicide prevention. In fact, the fitness enthusiast even plans to participate in the Out of the Darkness Walk on September 14, 2025, to show her support for the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) and raise suicide awareness. Last but not least, we should mention that on the relationship front, this Jack Daniel’s Whiskey lover appears to be single as of writing.
