Cate Blanchett Filming Jim Jarmusch’s Father Mother Sister Brother in Dublin

Cate Blanchett is shooting Jim Jarmusch’s new film ‘Father Mother Sister Brother’ in Dublin, Ireland. The production moved to Dublin after a schedule in West Milford, New Jersey. After the current schedule, it will be moved again to Paris, France, with the filming scheduled to conclude by March. The plot of the movie, also penned by the filmmaker, is currently under wraps.

Jarmusch has been tight-lipped about his new project but he revealed earlier this year that the “funny and sad” movie may not feature any music. “The film we’re preparing now for late this year to shoot, probably, I think, may have no music. It’s a very subtle film; it’s very quiet. And I think music could move it too much one way — it’s a funny and sad film, right? It sort of has both woven in. I don’t know if I wanna have music to add some other thing over it. It doesn’t really want it so far,” the filmmaker told The Playlist while taking part in an ‘Only Lovers Left Alive’ anniversary panel arranged at the 2023 Overlook Film Festival.

Jarmusch did take a break from feature filmmaking after the 2019 zombie film ‘The Dead Don’t Die,’ starring Bill Murray, Adam Driver, and Tilda Swinton. In between, he helmed a star-studded short titled ‘French Water,’ featuring Julianne Moore, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Indya Moore, Chloë Sevigny, and Leo Reilly. The filmmaker also directed the music video for Cat Power’s “A Pair of Brown Eyes.” In May 2023, Jarmusch and producer Carter Logan’s band Sqürl released their debut studio album ‘Silver Haze’ as well.

Jarmusch wrote the film with specific actors in mind. “I can’t speak about details but we’re putting together a plan for a film. I wrote it thinking of specific actors who I’m now trying to wrangle. Actors are like wild animals that I have to somehow corral because they have so much going on. So, I’m trying to corral some incredible wild animals – I hope I can capture them,” he told The Guardian in April 2023 while promoting his album. Blanchett joined the film after lending her voice to Hela in Marvel Studios’ ‘What If…?’ season 2 and The Storian in Netflix’s ‘The School for Good and Evil,’ in addition to portraying Lydia Tár in ‘Tár.’

Logan produces the film through his production company Exoskeleton Inc. In addition to producing and composing the music of Jarmusch’s ‘Paterson’ and ‘The Dead Don’t Die,’ Logan collaborated with the latter as a co-producer/producer in ‘Only Lovers Left Alive,’ ‘Gimme Danger,’ ‘French Water,’ etc.
