Jimmy Britten: What Happened to the Survivor?

With ID’s ‘The Friday the 13th Murders: Obsession To Do Evil’ chronicling the case of Kenneth Glenn Milner, we get a deep insight into how one’s psyche can turn them into monsters. After all, on July 13, 1990, he went on such a crime spree stemming from his long-held desire to kill that he murdered a 17-year-old in a satanic ritual before almost killing two others. Amongst them was Jimmy Britten of Groom, Texas, who thankfully survived the brutal assault on him through nothing but his own wits and will to fight for his life as well as his loved ones.

Jimmy Britten Fought For His Life For Over 15 Minutes

Although the details of Jimmy Britten’s background or early years are not publicly available as of writing, it has been reported that he was a proud, hard-working family man back in 1990. He was 47 at the time and reportedly worked as a meat inspector for the USDA Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) to provide a good life to his beloved wife and young stepchildren. However, at around 1 am on July 14, he was home alone upon returning from a night out with friends, which is why it was strange when he suddenly heard loud knocks on his front door.

Jimmy initially didn’t open the door, but when he recognized Kenneth Glenn Milner and heard him say he just needed to use the phone because he was having car troubles, he let him in. Despite the fact that he didn’t particularly like the 19-year-old after having known him as his stepdaughter’s former boyfriend from a couple of years ago, the 47-year-old wanted to help. However, as soon as Glenn came in, he used a stun gun on Jimmy before starting to attack him with a sharp, straight razor knife, slashing him across the neck, chest, torso, abdomen, and arms.

According to the show, Jimmy fought for his life for 15 minutes, struggling to either get away or grab the knife, only for the teenager to start vomiting just as he thought he was about to lose. He took complete advantage of the situation by shoving Glenn out the front door, locking it, and then rushing to lock the open back door even though he was rapidly losing a lot of blood. He could also still see his attacker pacing on his porch, as if trying to regain strength to attack again, but as soon as he managed to pick up the phone and dial 911, the teenager fled the scene.

Jimmy Britten Currently Leads a Quiet Life Away From the Limelight

Despite all the slashes across his body as well as the blood loss, Jimmy was conscious when first responders arrived, so he was able to tell them everything about the unprovoked assault on him. He was subsequently rushed to the Coronado Hospital in Pampa, where the doctors realized that while his injuries were thankfully not very deep, they required more than 200 stitches in total. He was actually released within a few days, following which officials requested that he come into the station so that they could document his survivor wounds as evidence against Glenn.

The truth is, the authorities had managed to arrest Glenn that same night as the incident, having found him in his car in his hometown of Panhandle with a gun to his chin. He later told authorities he heard their order not to pull the trigger only because he couldn’t kill himself without the “satanic incantation” needed “to go to the next level,” which he couldn’t remember.

It was after this that it came to light that Glenn had killed 17-year-old Frankie Garcia in an alleged satanic ritual hours before attacking Jimmy. Then, he shot his former school principal. During his court proceedings, he tried to get the death penalty, but he was ultimately sentenced to three consecutive life terms for his conviction on one count of murder and two counts of assault. Since then, from what we can tell, Jimmy has chosen to keep a low profile, so all we know is that he likely still resides in Groom, Texas, in his early 80s, where he is surrounded by family, beloved dogs, and peers from his church.
