Upon its premiere on January 1, 2020, their journey focused on their reconciliation and resilience to achieve their weight goal. While John weighed 686 lbs, Lonnie started out with a weight of 613 lbs. By the end of one year of their journey, they confronted their severe obesity confidently. John had concluded his journey at 393 lbs, while Lonnie’s final weight came down to 368. However, a little more than a year later, COVID-19 ended up shutting down their quest, but it did not deter their spirit, and over the years, they have come so far in their path to leading a healthy lifestyle.
John and Lonnie Hambrick Have Finally Achieved Their Goal
After the incredible run on the show, John and Lonnie Hambrick maintained their momentum by incorporating regular walking sessions into their routines. While Lonnie started knitting to keep his mind positive, John started spending more time with his son, Caleb. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the brothers continued their consultations with Dr. Younan Nowzaradan over the phone. Following this, when they finally returned to the doctor again, they delightedly discovered that they could actually sit together in the same chair. While Lonnie brought his weight down to 181 lbs, John was at 231 lbs. John and Lonnie eventually joined the gym, strengthening their bond. Soon after, Lonnie had his first skin removal surgery, during which about 10 lbs of skin was removed from his abdomen and lower chest. However, John was disappointed when he realized that he was still not in appropriate shape to go through with the surgery.
Due to John’s resilience, he successfully underwent his surgery exactly one month later. Despite their impressive progress, John later faced a setback when he put on 2 lbs of weight. However, he did not let his frustration take over because it was all part of the journey. Lonnie ultimately had his third and final surgery. Within 6 weeks, he began gaining some muscles. He became elated about his transformation, but according to him, “It is just the beginning.” Lonnie finished the program first, with his final weight of 166 lbs from 466 lbs. After three years of starting his hard work to get his body back in shape, John was finally ready for his second skin removal surgery. This time, a striking 17 lbs of skin was removed from his body. In the end, he brought down his weight to just 191 pounds, marking a huge milestone in his life.
John Has Been Spending Quality Time With His Family Today
When John Hambrick first started his transformative journey on the show, he was struggling in both his personal and professional life. He was unable even to share a bed with his wife, Amber, or play with his son, Caleb. Besides this, securing a job felt like an impossible occurrence. However, after the weight loss, he has turned his life completely around. Right after this, he joined as a Coach at a school district and contributed with his immense knowledge of football. In December 2024, he revealed that he had briefly taken a step back from this position and has been taking on several side jobs in construction and other fields in order to diversify his skills. However, John expressed his wish to teach PE classes since it will help him keep his weight in check and will prompt him to stick to his goals.
Besides this, John’s relationship with Amber has flourished in a way he could never have imagined. The duo now often spends their time together on romantic dates and other outings, and he never misses a chance to make his wife feel special. Since she has sacrificed a big part of her life to care for him, John believes now it is his time to show her how much she means to him. He has also been making up for the lost time with Caleb, who is growing up with each passing day. One of their profound memories as a family is a fishing trip they embarked on a few years ago. Though they didn’t catch any fish, it indeed was a day filled with laughter and irreplaceable memories. Apart from this, John continues to foster a strong connection with Lonnie. Lonnie had surprised him by fulfilling his lifelong dream of taking him on a race track, which left both of them exhilarated.
